  • End-to-End Serverless Data Pipeline

    ODTU Teknokent Ikizker Toplanti Salonu

Managing data has ever been a cumbersome and challenging task for companies processing a big amount of data. Automation and scaling are crucially needed in today's world of data of petabytes. Serverless helps developers, data scientists, and system admins to leave the automation and scalability to vendors. This eventually lets them motivate on how they can get better insights out of data. If your data is flowing in an indeterministic pattern, serverless comes to help with its pay-per-use model. This session presents how serverless(AWS Lambda in particular) helps people aggregate, manage, process and update data. In the session, Onur Yılmaz presents a serverless pipeline used for real-time scenarios in Arçelik. Speakers: *Onur Yılmaz, Software Specialist, Arçelik* Onur Yılmaz is a Software Specialist at Arçelik being a member of AI and Analytics team. He describes himself as a cloud practitioner. He is certified AWS Solutions Architect&Developer with 4+ years of experience. He is primarily focused on architecture and development of Arcelik's data pipeline with serverless architecture. • Serverless Observability: Next-Generation Monitoring

    ODTU Teknokent Ikizker Toplanti Salonu

Serverless has grown in popularity phenomenally, with its flexibility of leaving the platform management to the cloud provider and enabling you to focus on coding. However, as you gain flexibility, you start to lose observability of your applications’ performance. Having observability, with its four foundational pillars, would be the only feasible way to diagnose applications when you embrace microservices architectures and adopt serverless platforms. This session defines what serverless observability is and highlights its challenges by focusing on the JVM platform, Oracle Cloud, and AWS Lambda. It also explains how serverless folks can leverage the four pillars of observability by instrumenting their code with minimal overhead and zero code change. Speakers: *Mert Caliskan, Director of OpsGenie Academy, OpsGenie Inc.* Mert Çalışkan is the Director of OpsGenie Academy. He has over 10+ years of expertise in software development with the architectural design of Enterprise Java applications. He is an open source advocate for software projects such as PrimeFaces, and has also been committer and founder to various others. He is also working as a consultant for Payara application server. He is the co-author of PrimeFaces Cookbook by Packt Publishing and co-author of Beginning Spring by Wiley Publications. He is an occasional author for Oracle Java Magazine. He is the founder of AnkaraJUG, which is the most active JUG in Turkey. In 2014, he is entitled as a Java Champion for his achievements. He is part-time lecturing at Hacettepe University about Enterprise Web Applications' Architecture and Web Services. He shares his knowledge at national and international conferences like JavaOne 2017, JavaOne 2016, JDays 2015, JavaOne 2013, JDC2010 and JSFDays'08. *Serkan Özal, Co-Founder of Thundra, Thundra Inc.* Serkan Özal, Co-Founder of Thundra, Thundra Inc. Speaker: Heitor Lessa, Serverless & Developer Technologies @ Amazon Web Services, has spent the last 10 years in a number of roles, focusing on networking, infrastructure, and development. Since joining AWS in 2013, he’s been helping organizations of all sizes and segments across EMEA to design cloud native applications as well as software development best practices. Twitter: https://twitter.com/heitor_lessa In November 2014, AWS Lambda introduced developers to serverless compute with automatic scaling, pay-per-request billing, and built-in high availability. As a result, startups and enterprises are changing the way they build their applications. Since then, we've learned a lot from our customers about what it takes to build successful serverless applications. We’ve also seen some common and not so common missteps that developers building serverless applications have made along the way. Today, we're going to share those learnings, and show you how you can build the best serverless application that you can. Schedule: Networking: 18:30 - 19:00 Presentation: 19:15 - 20:15

He is interested in AWS right now and blogging about AWS services at his blog https://medium.com/@ceyhun.ozgun (previous blog https://ceyhunozgun.blogspot.com.tr) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ceyhun-ozgun/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Deploying Application to Production-Grade Container orchestration tools on AWS* “Containers” allow us to standardise the environment and abstract away the specifics of the underlying operating system and hardware. Similarly, “container orchestration” allows us not to think about what server will host containers or it manages how containers can be started, monitored, scaled, and killed in particular time. When deploying containers on AWS, selecting “container orchestration tool” is a major point to run an application. It is kind of interface that you will interact with when you want to launch an application, or query the state of an application, or shut an application down. AWS offers two fully managed orchestration tools which are ECS and EKS. Ahmet will first start talking about technical depths of ECS. He will explain how to manage ECS cluster with EC2 and Fargate options and how to deploy app to ECS cluster with task definitions/service. Then, he will continue to explain features of EKS (fully managed Kubernetes cluster) which is announced in reinvent 2017. Finally, he will have demo to deploy an application to ECS cluster with terraform. Bio: Ahmet is currently Senior Devops Engineer and working at Siemens. He has an almost 5 years experience in System & Network Infrastructure and Cloud technologies. Prior to Siemens, he has worked in Nokia and Opsgenie as a DevOps engineer. He has got BS degree from Bilkent University in 2013. He is mainly working in Reliable Cloud Infrastructures & Container solutions. He is one of the main contributer by creating AWS infrastructure & setting up deployment environment of Mindsphere product(https://siemens.mindsphere.io/) in Siemens.
