What we're about

I have recently attempted to establish three guidelines:

#1) I am trying to keep the number of members (in the low 100's). Looking for committed women of all ethnicities who desire to be active enough to surf the meet-up page every three months (this is every quarter) and attend events (twice a year). Therefore, if you have not followed those guidelines, I will send you an email a week before terminating your membership. You can always ask to rejoin. I have put this policy in place so that SoS does not become one of those meet-up groups with thousands of members and nobody knows each other.

#2) I would also like to enforce a rule of attending at least one local event before going out of town with the group. I believe that this is only fair and will make everyone feel comfortable. So if you are planning on attending (the annual camping trip, an international trip, or perhaps a cruise), then you would need to participate in a hike, a festival, a movie, bowling, etc., before an overnight event. It only seems logical that you would want to get to know the people that you are sharing a hotel or cabin room with.

#3) I am asking each member to post an actual picture of themselves. Not a poem, no emoji, or your favorite hat, etc. This way when you are meeting a member for the first time at a movie, the flea market, getting coffee; you know what the other person looks like. I do understand that some members have very confidential careers in law enforcement, social work, or perhaps in your past you have experienced a domestic situation and you do not want someone to find you. If you send me a brief email letting me know why you cannot post your picture, I will respect your privacy.

Our group is for women in the Coastal Empire Communities who enjoy doing just about anything. Travel, bowling, the movies, concerts, plays, wine-tasting, donating our time, camping, going to historical places, etc. Since you want to be around like-minded women, then this might be the group for you. Please be respectful and cancel your RSVP well in advance if at all possible; some of these events take a great deal of time to coordinate and sometimes money. One other item; when you get to your location message and state that you are standing outside the restaurant or movie. Everyone does not need your cell phone; post a message on the event that you are attending that you have arrived. Thanks.

Suggestions are always welcome! (Updated by LDW on 2/24/19)

Girl's Annual Camping Trip on the President's Day Weekend (2022)

Crooked River State Park

I suggest George L. Smith State Park (Twin City, GA) or Crooked River State Park (St. Mary's, GA).

If there is a high level of interest then perhaps we can get two cabins.
Also, I will have a Zoom in December 2021 to talk about details and individual deposits.

The information below is tentative.

It's that time again to get back to nature.t back to nature. Some members could carpool from the Wal-Mart in Pooler for anyone living in Effingham County, SC, or the Pooler areas. Check-in is at 4:00 pm on Saturday, and checkout is 12:00 pm on Monday.

Cost: I am looking for at least 8 - 12 committed members. The final cost will be $60.00 - 80.00 per person (which covers the food and the cost of two days in the cabin). This final cost will depend on how many people attend and if we get a 2 or 3 bedroom cabin. The Pines Library Network allows you to check out a "Georgia State Park Pass" with a library card rather than paying $5.00 at the park entrance.

The entrance to the park and activities (bike and boat rental) are Not included in the cost above. Bike rental is $10.00 for half a day. Kayak rental is $40.00 for tandem (2 people in a kayak) or $30.00 for a single for 4 hours. The agenda is below:

Saturday afternoon: Meet in Pooler (at the Wal-Mart parking lot at 2:00 pm or meet at the state park. Get settled in (decide on roommates), potluck (everyone brings a dish) for dinner, talk, take a late afternoon walk around the park. We can have "Girl's Chat" during/after dinner; talking about current events/political issues.

Sunday. Early morning walk/hike or yoga for those who like to get up early. Menus for all meals TBD; it can be voted on. Activities for the day; hiking, bike riding, kayaking/canoeing, etc. After dinner we can play board games; cards, scrabble, dominoes, a fire outside, etc.

Monday. Early morning walk/hike for those who like to get up early. Breakfast; TBD. Check-out time is 12:00 pm. Location: TBD.

What's provided in the cabin: Pots/pans, dishes, linens, towels, TV, two bedrooms, bathroom, screened back porch, grill, and/or fire pit. What you need to bring: Clothing, personal hygiene, your own kayak, bike, hiking boots or tennis shoes, any games you want to play (Scramble, cards, etc.)
