WAY OF SHAMBHALA: "Contentment in Everyday Life" with Acharya Eve Rosenthal

                                        Acharya Eve Rosenthal

                             Contentment in Everyday Life

                                      (Shambhala Online)

Contentment is hard to find.  We usually think contentment is found in things, achievements or experiences.  With meditation practice, we learn to appreciate ourselves and simple human experiences.  In this Way of Shambhala course we begin to understand why experience is often habitual and full of discontent and suffering.  And most importantly, we learn how difficult emotions and the challenges of life can be met with gentleness, steadiness and humor.

This is a public class open to all, but is especially recommended for people who have taken Shambhala Training Level Two. This is the second class in our core curriculum Way of Shambhala - but it may also be taken independently. The class includes meditation instructions, talks, periods of meditation practice, discussion, and a variety of contemplative practice activities.  A range of learning aids are used, including simple instructions, experiential exercises and strong community support.

This course will be taught by Acharya Eve Rosenthal, a senior teacher in the Shambhala tradition, via recorded talks on Shambhala Online with local real-time exercises and discussions.

About the teacher

Acharya Eve Rosenthal became a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of Shambhala and Naropa University, in 1973. She served as Resident Director of Shambhala Training at the New York City Shambhala Center in the mid-eighties. During this period Eve began to teach the dharma. The Sakyong empowered her as a senior teacher in 2005, conferring upon her the title of Acharya. In 2011, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche appointed her “Chair of the Acharya Council.”

She travels widely to teach on meditation, Shambhala and Buddhist principles, leading programs and retreats for the public as well as advanced practitioners. Founder of Shambhala Online, she has worked in technology on Wall Street and as a university professor. She is a long time practitioner and instructor of Tai Chi Chuan. She lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

SMCLA Generosity Policy

The Shambhala Center remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our members and program participants, and one of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one should be prevented from participating in programs for lack of funds. At the same time, the Center relies on the revenue from program participants to cover the cost of each program and of keeping our doors open.

For programs where there is a set price, if the program price is an obstacle for you, please offer as much of the program price as you can. The suggested minimum, based on the Center’s costs, is 50% of the program price. You may type in the amount on the registration page and pay accordingly. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price of the program, and provides support to the Shambhala Center.
