Shanghai Railway Station
Tired of spending your Christmases in Shanghai gorging yourself on food that makes you fat and small talking with people you don't even like? Make a change this year and spend your holiday in a frozen hell hole with a bunch of dirt bag climbers instead (guaranteed better company than your lard ass friends at home).
Freeze your socks off while suspended from a waterfall, sleep in a tent pitched on a frozen river, and squat around a pot of gasoline cooked instant noodles! When the noodles have turned back to ice and last three M&Ms have been shared, you'll definitely feel closer to Jesus. Take in a change of scenery for New Year's Eve by hiking up to a ruined section of the Great Wall and camping inside a collapsed guard tower.
No ice climbing experience is required. Climbing and camping equipment are available for rent in Beijing. Those without ice climbing experience should make an effort to attend this season's remaining rock climbing events, as well as attend our weekly climbing gym sessions. The gym sessions are not published on Meetup. WeChat Yan at[masked] to be invited.
Exact dates to be discussed with participants at a later time. Equipment requirement is typical winter camping gear down to -15C. Advice available upon request. Technical gear requirements will be communicated in person. The trip is free, but expect to pay around 1200 RMB for the round trip train tickets, and another 1200 RMB for travel, food, accommodations, and equipment rental in Beijing. Numbers are estimates only.
Serious business: ice climbing is a dangerous activity. Safety is the first priority at all times. Competent climbing and safety instruction will be available for those who require them. Please act maturely when the axes hit the ice and follow advice at all times. This is not a guided trip! This is climbers getting together to climb. If you are new and want to learn, you will be taught. If you are a danger to yourself and others, you will be put on the next train home. This is not a trip you sign up for at the last minute because your other Christmas plans fell through. See disclaimer in the group's "About Us" description, especially the part at the end.
