Design for 3D Printing with Shapeways and ProtoSpace - Utrecht, the Netherlands

We're on the edge of a new normal, where everyday products are custom made for and by each and every one of us. Today though, only a lucky few know how to create the digital models that become real products. If you haven't known where to start, this class will get you on the path to printing a Stradivarius in no time.

This class presents the foundations of 3D modeling and 3D printing, and uses SketchUp (Google's free 3D modeling software) to apply those concepts. In the exercise, you will create a customised keychain, learn how to get it 3D printed on Shapeways, and sell customized versions of this and other products in your online shop.

Bring your Mac or PC laptop (SketchUp does not support Linux), your charger, and an external mouse. We do recommend that you create an account on Shapeways and download Google SketchUp prior to the class.

This 3-hour workshop costs €40 and includes a €15 printing voucher for Shapeways.

Pro: inspiring, eye opening, hands-on, tangible, direct, informative, friendly, knowledgeable. Con: Too short and can thus cover only the introduction and basics, was more geared towards dutch audience. Surprisingly the extras were even more inspiring such as a real-time 3-d object scanning demo with do-it-yourself / low cost hard and software. Plenty of printed objects to touch and examine. Lots of machinery to examine. Goodies from Shapeways (thank you Bart). Charming hosting by Charlotte (thank you)
