  • Our Sho-Do workshop will begin with a brief history of calligraphy & painting in Japan and will explain how these arts are relevant today in Asia and in the West.

Following will be a brief explanation of the body-mind-spirit unification through the basic techniques of controlling the brush along with the aesthetics and principles that are universal for the Japanese arts for cultivating calmness and concentration.

The participants will then experience the “Way of the Brush” as they begin to brush basic strokes which will lead them to be able to write different characters in either kanji, hiragana or katakana, the three different writing symbols used in the Japanese language.

There is a $10 materials fee for the use of our brushes, the ink and paper and the other equipment needed.

Class size limited to 15 people. RSVP - Reservations are required.
