The Steel Challenge, at The Range in Oxford, is highly encouraged and recommended to our members and is something that we focus a lot on because of its “beginner friendly” nature. Steel Challenge is often referred to as an entry point into shooting sports and provides an excellent starting place for young or beginner shooters. However, Steel Challenge is not just for those interested in shooting sports or beginners. It's a great opportunity to enhance and improve upon your shooting skills.
Although a timed event, don't let that discourage you. Shooters have 30 seconds to engage 5 steel targets, which is an eternity. Nor should the term “competition” be of any concern, because it's your opportunity to establish a personal baseline, allowing you to begin to measure your individual improvement. Steel Challenge is also a lot more fun than plinking away at cardboard on a range. See the link that follows for a short video “A Beginners Guide to Steel Challenge”: https://www.youtube.c... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4RXNo4gEyk)
GEAR REQUIRED: Handgun with under 200 rounds, holster (except 22 cal). 5 magazines recommended, but if you have three, no problem (just speeds up the day if everyone has five magazines). Ear and eye protection is mandatory even if you are just observing. Wear appropriate attire, including covered shoes. When not shooting, keep unloaded firearm in holster at all times. Only touch firearm when you are in the shooting box and instructed to “Make Ready”.
PRICING and REGISTRATION: Bring $20 in cash as payment is made upon arrival (no credit cards accepted). In addition to your RSVP here at Shooters Like Us, to ensure your spot, please RSVP at the PractiScore link that follows. Less experienced and first time Steel Challenge participants should register for Squad 5 (12 shooter limit). Members that have shot the Steel Challenge before or are more experienced shooters should register for Squad 4 (12 shooter limit). Additional shooters should join another squad, but post a comment as to the squad you joined so other of our members can participate on the same squad(s).
IF YOU RSVP FOR A SHOOTERS LIKE US EVENT THAT REQUIRES PAYMENT AND YOU DON'T SHOW UP OR FAIL TO CANCEL YOUR RSVP IN ADVANCE, YOU ARE LEAVING A SPOT UNFILLED AS WAITLIST MEMBERS WILL NOT BE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND. FURTHERMORE, IF YOU CANCEL AT THE LAST MINUTE (which we understand does occasionally happen), WE MAY AGAIN BE LEFT WITH UNFILLED SPOTS OR WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR RANGE TIME THAT GOES UNUSED.
