Fri-Sun 4/7 thru 4/9, 2nd Annual Manatee Springs Camping, Near Suwannee River:

Let's have a fun weekend of camping, hiking and paddling. If that's not enough, let's go biking and scuba diving. We had a ball last year, so we want to do it again! Manatee Springs has great camping where the wildlife is abundant and the deer come to you. The mornings are cool and the afternoons are warm enough to swim.

Friday evening we will have a Meet & Greet Pot Luck Dinner at 7:00pm by the springs.  On the table there will be an optional $1.00 donation jar to cover the fee of the picnic shelter.

This year we want to take advantage of the Pontoon Tour and lunch. It is $38 for a 90 minute tour which includes lunch. Six people limit per trip. First tour starts at 9:45 am.  Reservations are to be made at the Concession Stand.

Attend a 9 mile group paddle with a $20 shuttling fee.  You will paddle with the current making it and fairly easy paddle  You can rent canoes and kayak also at the Concession Stand.  Canoes/kayaks can also launch from two boat ramps on the river, one located on the north end of the park and one on the south end, each is about 1 mile from the park’s main entrance. Both of these are accessible by driving outside the park. Ask for directions at Ranger Station.

Snorkeling & Scuba Diving: Scuba divers must have a partner and are required to present their certification upon registration with the office prior to diving. Cave diving is available in Manatee Spring or Catfish Hotel Sink. You can post for a dive partner on Meet-up comments or call the event host.

Hiking & Bicycling: There are 8.5 miles of nature trails and boardwalk that wind through cypress swamps, sinkhole ponds and uplands.

Festival near by at Cedar Key. Old Florida Celebration & Festival is April 7 and 9th. It is about 25 minutes away from  Manatee Springs. There will be music, food and art on the historic Beachfront City on 2nd Street. They close their tents by 5:00 in the evenings. This island community is 60 miles SW of Gainesville on Hwy 24. Http://www.cedarkeyartsfestival.com

The main campsite is reserved at Magnolia Loop 2 Site 51 by Host Vicki Andrews and Jeff and Sandy Parker.   We will have a Saturday evening campfire gathering from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. You can bring your leftovers to share or just come to enjoy the crackling fire with friends.

All campsites are good, but the Magnolia Loop 2 are shady and will be near other Sidetrackers.

Individuals will be responsible for reserving their own camp spot: you may have two tents to a site, so find someone to share a site with.  Check out the senior rates for an even better deal.   Mark your site with the Sidetrackers yellow bandanas on the post that holds your campsite number. That way we can locate each other.
