I went to Crystal River yesterday and had an absolute blast! Spent over 7 hours either in my kayak or in the water with the manatees. There were tons of them in Three Sisters Springs. Perfect birthday present to myself. Rainbow Springs sounds like fun. I've never been but hear the area is lovely.

    February 20, 2013

    • Gina J.

Happy belated birthday. Glad you had a great day.

      February 21, 2013

  • Dan W.

I'm glad every one had a good time. Wish there would have been more manatee. I'm thinking about a camp out at Rainbow River. Beautiful place, we could hike, snorkel, tube and kayak. Near Dunnellon, you passed it on the way down.

Sunday turned out to be manatee palooza day. Elaine and I were with them for hours. It was colder and fewer tourists were out.

      February 20, 2013

    • Gina J.

      I would go.

      February 21, 2013

  • Dan W.

Happy belated Birthday Hana! I like a "manatee palooza", that's what I was hopping for. Note for next time, go on Sunday. I may not be at the next meeting but will definitely set a date for Rainbow River.

I had a great time and really enjoyed organizing this. Learned a lot for next time. The RV park was great, between the heated pool, Jacuzzi, camp fire, and great breakfast don't think it could get any better.

You did a great job organizing this! I really appreciate it.

Everyone needs to check yourselves for ticks. I found one on me but the good news is it didn't look like a deer tick and Lyme disease is predominately in the northeast. The primary symptom are headaches and a bulls eye rash.

    February 18, 2013

    • Janet

Wow, you know that song that Brad Paisley sings, I'd like to check you for ticks, it's coming to life! lol

Had a great time! I will go back thank you so much for organizing this. Loved the camp ground. Jacuzzi and heated pool rocked.

Had a fantastic time w/ a fun group of new friends! What an amazing experience to see and swim near the gentle manatees. Thanks to Dan for organizing the trip and being my telephonic GPS after I made some late night wrong turns and then drove past the camp park twice! Next time I leave work earlier!

    Hi Dan,
As we talked, I will share your camp site and arrive late on Friday. I will be on the 9am boat, right? Thanks!

    February 11, 2013

  • CC

Hello Dan, I would like to be on the boat with Janet and Sharon J. That should be the noon boat. Is there room for me? I was thinking about camping at the $25 6 tent site with you, is there room at the camp site for my tent? If there is not any camping space, I can drive down saturday instead. Email or call[masked] thanks so much!

    February 10, 2013

    • Melody E.

Dan, Please count me in for the campsite. Will be driving down Fri. night to pitch my tent. Thanks! Melody

      February 11, 2013

    • Gina J.

Okay - who wants to share a tent with me? I'm wanting to head over to Crystal Springs with the two-person kayak. I can take another person out on it on Friday aft/ Saturday aft if you provide your own PFD. I have the whistles and paddles.

      February 11, 2013

  • Jerry

Do you still have room on the 9 AM boats? Where can I pay the membership fee and bring the waiver/release form. If you still need a captain for a boat I have had 4 different ones from 15' to 29' and would be glad to help out.

    February 11, 2013

    • Dan W.

Yes, your signed up. Call me, the details have been changed and posted but I need some more information. Thanks. Dan [masked]

You wouldn't want me to be a captain I know nothing about boats lol

    February 5, 2013

  • Scuba Diver B.

Dan I can do the early boat if there is room. I will be there the night before.

    February 3, 2013

  • Melody E.

I rsvp'd for pontoon & snorkel. Would like to go on 9 AM boat and go down night before. Is there room on the 9 AM pontoon? To clarify, is that leaving from the Crystal Springs Lodge & Resort? Do we rent snorkel & wet suit from same place? Any females from Jax going down Fri. night who are interested in sharing a room at the Best Western? I can drive (split gas cost). Would like to have lunch at Cody's w/ group then head back to Jax.

    February 3, 2013

    • Dan W.

Yes, the two, 8 person pontoon boats are from the Crystal Lodge Dive Center and you can rent the gear from them. I think there may be some one who is staying the hotel but don't know if they already have a room mate. If your going to the monthly meeting this Wed. I will give out more information and try to connect people with plans.

      February 3, 2013

  • Dan W.

I have reserved a third boat for this trip from a second dive facility. They also rent wet suits and dive gear.

    The Port Marina and Hotel. 1610 S. E. Paradise Cr. 34429. [masked]-7234.

The 12 person boat is scheduled from noon to 5:00. Please let me know if you plan to go down the day before or leave earlier than the scheduled jax departure in order to get on the 9:00AM trip. Cost for the boat is $125.00, individual cost will depend on the number attending. Also need a captain for this boat. Thanks.

I could make either trip, but would prefer the later one.

    February 1, 2013

    • Dan W.

Looks like what will happen is an 8 person boat will go out at 9AM from Crystal Lodge Dive Center, and at noon another 8 person from the same facility and the third boat is a 12 person pontoon from The Port Marina and Hotel. I will try to firm up plans at next weeks meeting.

      February 1, 2013

  • Maralouise S.

I would like to go out at 9 am boat ride. will leave early 5 - 5:30 to make it; will bring my own kayak, will arrange my own snorking if I decide to do that. will pay what is necessary for 9 am boat tour. How do I do that?

Hi, I am new to this group. This trip sounds like a lot of fun, I would like to bring my own kayak, is there going to be others that I can kayak with?

    January 24, 2013

    • Dan W.

Yes, there will be lots of people in a variety of boats. Three Sister's Spring is near by and there are lots of other springs in the throughout the river.

      January 25, 2013

  • Susan C.

    looking forward to it!

    January 21, 2013

  • Karen L.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend this event. But, I'm sure you will all have fun.

    January 20, 2013

  • Erin B.

Be in a reserved spot. :)

    January 17, 2013

  • Erin B.

    I would like to snorkel/pontoon!

    January 17, 2013

  • Dan W.

I have added a question to the RSVP as follows: Would you like to reserve a spot on one of the pontoon boats? You can also reserve a snorkel trip with the shop apart from the two boats we have reserved. You can also Kayak or kayak and snorkel on your own. So yes, effectively this trip has any unlimited number who may attend. If you have not indicated to me that you want to be part of the 16, reserved for the two pontoon boats, you need to make your own arrangements with the shop for a snorkel trip or another outfit to rent a kayak or of course bring your own kayak. Will post hotel and camping information soon.

    January 16, 2013

    • Joni B.

Hi Dan, I want to be sure I am part of the group that reserved a spot on the pontoon boats. I leave in the morning for a trip to MN and won't return in time to make other arrangements. So am sending this note tonight in hopes that you will help me with my reservation...

      January 16, 2013

Have you checked into the NFCC yet? Great hike last Sat.

      January 16, 2013

  • Tamiko O.

I'd like to go snorkeling but I can only snorkel on the surface ( can't go under), can I still go?

    January 15, 2013

    • Tamiko O.

So, I guess I can go. It's been a while since I snorkels, but I think I can do it. Thanks Dan!

      January 15, 2013

    • Dan W.

Anybody can snorkel, it's easy. You can spend the night if you like. I'll post more information about that later. The best way to understand what a pontoon boat is would be to google and you see a picture of one. I'm sure you've seen them before.
