Mary Anne Hitt, Beyond Coal Campaign, The Sierra Club, will be the speaker. Mary Ann directs the Beyond Coal Campaign, recognized as one of the most successful environmental campaigns in history. Beyond Coal works to replace coal with clean energy by mobilizing grassroots activists in local communities. Mary Anne was listed in 2015 as one of the POLITICO 50, POLITICO’s list of the top thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming American politics. She has made numerous media appearances on outlets ranging from Good Morning America to NPR’s Diane Rehm Show, and was featured in the National Geographic film From the Ashes and their Emmy-winning Years of Living Dangerously series. She is also co-host of the climate storytelling podcast No Place Like Home. Mary Anne previously served as the executive director of Appalachian Voices, the Ecology Center, and the Southern Appalachian Biodiversity Project. With degrees from the University of Montana and University of Tennessee, she was presented the 2008 Notable UT Woman Award. She grew up in the mountains of east Tennessee and now lives with her family in West Virginia. Light refreshments will be served, and we welcome the public, free of charge.
