Hitchcock Movies Stanford Theater

I like the atmosphere of older English movies and mysteries, which Alfred Hitchcock does so well. It's nice to have some friends there to talk about them and anything & everything, maybe having dinner after or going to a cafe. University has some new places. If two movies is too much, come for the 2nd one at 5:55 pm (or the 1st at 4:10 pm). I'll have a sign in the lobby visible from outside for a few minutes before the movies start. We had 7 people last movie night. The Lady Vanishes (1938), "While traveling in continental Europe, a rich young playgirl realizes that an elderly lady seems to have disappeared from the train." 4:10 pm The 39 Steps (1935), "A man in London tries to help a counterespionage agent." Meeting location: 221 University Ave, Palo Alto Leader: Jeff Browning, 650/[masked], [masked]

We had some discussions about the 2 movies we saw. Some answers I dug up:1. The leading man in The Lady Vanishes, Michael Redgrave was indeed Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave's father. 2. Hitchcock did make a cameo in The Lady Vanishes--but he was not the taxi driver in the final scene. He was in Victoria Station, wearing a black coat and smoking a cigarette. 3. He also made a cameo in The 39 Steps: He tossed a white cigarette box while the bus pulls up for male lead and the woman who gets the knife in her back early in the movie, when they leave the theater. I missed both!

There are several other Hitchcock films I'd love to see, and it's always a treat to go to the Stanford Theater. I would prefer the later shows for a Saturday night. Would be nice to meet for dinner or a snack afterwards to talk about the film(s). Maybe also a set area of the theater to sit for late comers to find the others, and/or someone wearing a readily identifiable hat up until the movie starts. Anna

Well, I apologize because I've caught a cold and left after the first movie and was only able to direct a couple of people to the group. It looks like there were a total of nine of us but somewhat scattered. We were on the right side downstairs, the 9th row from the back. I plan to do this often for the Hitchcock series but should I start at 7:30 pm, usually the main movie, after having dinner at Pluto's or some other restaurant. Sometimes I will want to see the other movie and don't like to be out so late on
    Sunday night. Comments?
