Join me on a fast-paced, strenuous hike through an area that is off the beaten track -- the Bonny Doon Ecological Preserve. The area was severely burned by a fire in 2008 and the moon rock area remains closed. However, there are trails throughout the open area that are fun to explore. Most trails are unmarked so have an adventurous spirit. We begin by hiking on sandy trails and skirt the closed moon rocks before heading down to, and across, Laguna Creek. The trails head down through oak forest to redwoods and then up towards Empire Grade Road we pass through chaparral with brief peeks at the ocean. These trails are not maintained so be prepared to stay together. Wear hiking boots, layered clothes. Bring water, snacks, and lunch. If you have not hiked with me email me with questions.
Rain cancels hike. Bring layered clothing, lunch, water. No water or bathroom at parking lot. No host carpool at Los Gatos Unlimited Parking Lot at 8:30. Other carpools may be arranged later. Listed with the Black Mountain Hiking Section and Sierra Singles.
