MTN Bike Ride - 60 miles - / + Verdi / Prosser Estates / Emigrant Trail and back
Epic (distance) Mountain Bike Ride celebrating the longest day of the year! Please join Kristine and Nick on this nearly 60 mile mountain bike ride on 2 days past the longest day of the year. We will incorporate Dog Valley / Henness Pass Road / Stampede Road / Prosser Lake Reservoir/ Donner Party Picnic Area and the commemorative Overland Emigrant Trail. Check this outing's page outing status prior to driving to trail head. UNRSVP as soon as you know you cannot attend so others who may be on the waiting list can go. Of note.. we have noticed where folks RSVP for two outings on the same day and same time. If you do so... you will be excluded from our outing -- unless you have a bizarro world twin and live in a parallel universe. Then we want YOU! This steady / sustained pace bike ride is geared for those who have biked/hiked with us and are accustomed to our style of biking/hiking or for those who like a moderately fast paced bike/hike with a few short breaks. We ask for a $1 voluntary contribution to offset costs associated with Sierra Club outing leaders (hosts) training sessions, rental of meeting facilities, newsletters etc. Early sign outs not encouraged unless our pace is too slow. For more information about the Sierra Club, its mission, history, and other events, please see ( Membership in the Sierra Club is NOT a requirement to participate in any of our hikes. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ READ THE FOLLOWING - ITS FOR YOUR AND THE GROUPS SAFETY AND ENJOYMENT. Membership in the Sierra Club "IS NOT" a requirement to participate in any of our hikes. However, you will find that becoming a member of the Sierra Club has many residual benefits in line with your life style. http:// When using Meetup to reserving your spot, one thing we ask is that if you decide to not come on the outing, please change your attendance to "NO". • PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU RSVP FOR A TRIP. ( Please assess your level of fitness before you RSVP. However, If you are conditioned for this type of hike, the outing can be very enjoyable. As always, obtain your physician's approval before beginning any physical activity. Remember as a general a rule..subtract roughly 3 degrees for every 1,000 feet elevation gain from starting location. Because of changeable weather.. please dress appropriately and in layers. Wind chill may be nasty anytime and especially in exposed areas at high altitude. Bring snacks, water, equipment, etc. to sustain you for an outing that might require 4+ hours.

What we're about

Friends and members of the Sierra Club,

Thank you for choosing to join us on one of our outings - a 100+ year tradition of the Sierra Club! For many decades, volunteers of our local group, the Great Basin Group, have lead outings throughout the region. Areas of the region include the greater Reno area, the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the vast interior of the state of Nevada.

We are not "just another Meetup group". The Sierra Club has been in existence for over 125 years. Our mission is to "Explore, enjoy, and protect the planet". Our volunteer outings leaders will, at a minimum, have basic first aid training and go through a mentoring process with veteran outings leaders before becoming outings leaders themselves. That is the minimum that you can expect. Many of our outings leaders will have decades of experience leading outings in our region and have many wonderful outdoor secrets to share with you!

Almost all trips posted on this website are Sierra Club outings - all participants must sign a Sierra Club Sign-in Sheet and Liability Waiver ( at the trailhead before we begin each outing. If you have any question about the difficulty of the outing and whether you have the appropriate fitness, and/or equipment to participate, contact the outing leader before the day of the outing. During the outing, expect to remain with the outings leader during the entire outing, unless there is a co-leader (this is for safety and liability reasons). If you plan on bringing a dog, please ask the outing leader of the trip for permission and special instructions before the day of the outing.

You do not have to be a Sierra Club member to participate in our outings.

All participants will be asked to donate $1 to the Sierra Club Great Basin Group every time they join us for an outing to fund our outings leader training programs.
