Prepare to Hike Mt. Rose: Easy

Meeting at 8:15 am from the Galena Creek Visitor's Center. Hiking time 2 1/2 hours max.  It is around 3 1/2 to 4 miles roundtrip and around 1,000 foot elevation gain.

Second session in the series to prepare to hike Mt. Rose.  Two weeks ago we went to the first switchback in the way to Church's Pond.  This week will be the same. We will go at a moderate pace.  If you want to go farther/faster or turn back, just sign out on our sign-in sheet.  It is optional if you want to bring a compass.  Maps will be provided. This will be a weekly hike that will eventually prepare you to do Mt. Rose with ease and enjoyment in July.

Dress warmly as we start at 6,000 feet and will be going to around 7,000. Bring jacket, hat, gloves, and plenty of water. Dogs love this hike.  If you have a health condition that will prevent you from hiking at high altitudes--skip this one please.

If you wish to donate a buck toward offsetting the expenses of First Aid/CPR training for the Sierra Club hike leaders, it will be appreciated. All participants are required to sign a waiver at the start of the hike.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Stefanie! This is a question for you. Is the any alternative route for Sunday morning hike? I wanted to join a group to meet people with similar interests and have some fun. It would be difficult to call the hike we did toward Church pond a total fun. I do not think I would consider keep trying to acquire hard core hikers skills whether for Mt. Rose summit or not. That was not the purpose. But before I disappear in MH370 manner, I thought I ask this question.

I need to start at a slower pace in preparation for the Mt. Rose hike, but its doable. Maybe not in July, but September.

We are only going up to the first switchback to Church's Pond. So, no food should be necessary.
