Wednesday Conditioning Hike Hunter Creek

This is a Sierra Club Outing.  For more information go to>

This hike will be about 4 miles RT and has 600+ feet of gain up the canyon in which Hunter Creek flows.  Pace will be moderately fast. Trail is rocky so trail shoes highly recommended.  Bring plenty of water and clothing for conditions.  Dogs will need leashes and baggies.  Learn about flora or fauna along the trail.  Waiver to be signed at the trailhead and $1 donation is appreciated.

Really fun hike! I love this trail, it's just the kind of terrain I enjoy. The winding ascent beneath varied canyon scenery, with distinctive rock formations looming above, on a narrow, frequently very rocky path really gets my hiking juices flowing. Jim set a heart-thundering pace, and it was an exciting challenge trying to keep up with him. At the turnaround point, seven of us decided to sign out of the hike and go on to the waterfall, because really, how could we not? So that last bit was great too, in the pine trees and out of the rocks. Everyone enjoyed the falls, many pictures were taken, as you'd expect. The last of the rogue group made it back to the cars just before the final dying vestiges of the sun's light in the sky vanished and made the trail dangerously dark. Everyone got down in one piece, so Jim doesn't have to feel bad for leaving us all to die on the mountain. This time.

Good hike, everyone got back safely though a bit late just before it got dark.

Are we going to the waterfall?

We won't make it that far as we like to limit to about 4 miles RT. :-( Also in that deep canyon we might lose light. We usually go to the middle of that long crescent shaped canyon.

Ah, I just did this hike last week with my Dad, we went in the morning, so it was very nice. A shame we won't be going to the waterfall, it was gorgeous. But the hike up the canyon is very scenic, so it'll be highly enjoyable no matter where we stop.
