March Social Dinner and a Movie in Hunterdon County, NJ

  • This location is shown only to members

March 14, 2013, Thursday 7:00 pm Dinner and a Movie
The Ship Inn, 61 Bridge Street, Milford, NJ 08848
Event Leader: Susan Schirmer at [masked],[masked]
Movie: "FRONTLINE: Climate of Doubt"
Description: FRONTLINE correspondent John Hockenberry of PRI's The Takeaway goes inside the organizations that fight the scientific establishment, environmental groups, and lawmakers to shift the direction of debate on climate issues and redefined the politics of global warming. Four years ago, climate change was hot. Politicians from both parties, pressed by an anxious public, seemed poised to act. But that was then. Today, public opinion about the climate issue has cooled, and politicians either ignore the issue or loudly proclaim their skepticism of scientific evidence that human activity is imperiling the planet. What's behind this reversal? 2012 - 60 minutes
Dinner: The Ship Inn is New Jersey’s First Brew Pub. It has a friendly atmosphere 2 blocks from the Delaware River. Seating overlooks the beautiful Harehokake Creek. Enjoy craft-brewed ales and British-inspired foods with locally sourced and ecologically responsible ingredients. The menu includes pasta, beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian entrees, as well as sandwiches, burgers, salads and British inspired appetizers. The Ship is pleased to offer separate billing. http://www.britishbrewpub.com/
Parking: On the street or across the road in the church parking lot.

RSVP: by Wednesday, March 13th. Seating limited to 25 reservations.
We will be joined by members from the NJ Sierra Club.

Sorry about this late RSVP - I hope it is still OK to show up for dinner? PS - I don't think my wife will be coming, but if she is interested at the last minute, is that OK or not?

...ahhh... the liquor license. How could I forget? :D

Meanwhile... car's at the mechanic's, and he's got it a day longer than planned. Not sure yet if it's going to be late tomorrow... I may need to bail. I hope not.

"Beverage choices" are a major selling point for the Ship. :-)

Yeah the video set up is crucial plus we can't "interfere" with other guests. I can't commit to transport video /TV equipment each month. Not absolutely necessary... but no liquor license there. I have thought about the National Hotel... if they could set up one of the rooms downstairs for us, but they also have lots of ongoing events.... open mike nights, etc.. I play Trivia there every other Tuesday night. I do have an ongoing relationship with the Ship. Which I like for several reasons: semi private room, beverage choices, video set up, willingness to issue separate checks, commitment to sustainability and local farm ingredients, close for Lehigh Valley Group to attend. Close to home for me.

We can talk more on this next time...

    Hey Susan!

Don't know if you have a standing relationship w/ Ship Inn...but, the Cafe in Frenchtown (across from the Pizza shop) has 1/2 price deals on food on Thursday nights. Just noticed it this weekend. It's big enough for a small group, but don't know if they'd have the video setup.
