4/25: Kayak location has been changed to Deep Creek. Haw Creek is choked with duck weed. Please note the following:
We'll kayak on beautiful, isolated Deep Creek for about 6 miles. Bring PFD, whistle, snack, water, bug spray, sunscreen, hat. You must wear your PFD.
We'll meet at the Deep Creek Boat Launch located at 7975 SR-207, Hastings, FL. Take I-95 south to the SR-207 exit. Go west toward Hastings for about 12 miles. Right after the intersection with SR-206, you will come to the bridge over Deep Creek. Drive over the bridge, then U-turn and cross back over. The road to the launch site is on the right (south) just over the east side of the bridge.
There are no restrooms at the put-in location. Be there early to unload and get ready. Please do not launch until after I do a short briefing at 10:00 am.
We'll paddle on one of the most beautiful kayak trips in Florida. Haw Creek winds through a cypress wilderness. We'll put in at Russell's Landing in the Haw Creek Preserve and paddle east for 3-4 miles and return.
Bring a picnic lunch. We'll lunch in the covered picnic area after the paddle, then maybe stroll down the one-mile boardwalk through the preserve.
Russell's Landing is located at the end of County Road 207 in Flagler County. Take I-95 south. Take exit #298/US-1/Bunnell onto US-1 S (US-1 S) toward Bunnell. Turn left onto SR-100. Turn left onto CR-302. Turn left onto CR-305. Turn right onto CR-110. Turn left onto CR-2007 and go to end of road.
Bring your own kayak or canoe. PFD and whistle are required. Bring bug repellent and water. Restrooms at the put-in.
