This hike is on Ft. Huachuca. You must have a Visitor Pass or Military ID card. If you need a Visitor Pass, you should plan to get it in advance of the hike. The only place to get the Visitor Pass is the building on the right just at the East (Van Deman) gate off of Highway 90 Bypass.
To get to meetup location at the Ft. Huachuca gas station, go through the main (Buffalo Soldier) gate (at the end of Fry Blvd.) and proceed a short distance (about 500 ft) to the gas station on the left. Park along the east side of the parking lot.
We will meet at the scheduled start time and carpool and/or caravan to the trailhead.
The hike itself is approximately 5 miles (2.5 miles each way) on Garden Canyon Rd. The road is well maintained, but there are several washes to cross. You may get wet feet. The elevation change is about 800 ft. which makes this similar to the Carr Canyon Hike, but with a better road.
Along the way are some petroglyphs which make for a nice photo op.
As usual, before leaving the house to attend the hike you should check this web site to make sure that the hike leader(s) have not cancelled the hike due to adverse conditions on the trail.
