Hello

I'm looking to develop a Fleet Management/Telematics device with an access control component using base hardware provided by a vendor in the automotive market. I've been researching products from a number of vendors, however one of my most promising leads was bought out by a major us corporation who operates in the same space as my organization and other organizations I'm associated.

Our preference is for something that is open source, and can be adapted to fit our needs, with a vendor that has a strong automotive focus as one key component of our device would be the use of canbus and we want to leverage the r&d on existing automotive platforms to assist us in data collection to further our business goals of providing cost effective car sharing and alternative personal and business transportation solutions and reduce the need for personal car ownership.

Here are our must have features (our current device)

Support for Awid 125khz rfid access fobs using a remote updatable
access control list

Door lock/ignition trigger via RFID fob and remote web/mobile interface (API)

Per trip distance tracking via vss signal from transaxle output or
via canbus data

Cellular Remote update of access control list
Cellular Remote monitoring of ignition state and 12v state

Api for connection to our in house software, development and support
to our inhouse developers

Gps query of vehicle location, or last location

Backup communications or fail over when cell data connection is unavailable (Ex SMS Messaging)

Low power draw below 50ma in standby and 5-700ma in burst- transmit mode

Here are our dream features

Support for cubic mifare (translink "compass", san fran "clipper",
London "oyster" rfid/nfc cards and future nfc devices (smartphones) for total transportation integration
(It appears HiD makes such a reader, although power draw is a concern)


Gps positioning and tracking

OBDII/canbus support for generic diagnostic code reading of trouble
codes via api/web interface as well as future support for control of automotive systems (door locks,security system, reset diagnostic codes, view livestream data)

Willingness to develop additional data gathering from canbus should
we obtain canbus data header info from manufacturer(example: state of
charge, remaining battery capacity on electric vehicles)

In cab vehicle feedback interface to submit service requests (vehicle condition, service issues, booking changes)

Accelerometer to track crash and tow events

Temp/expansion inputs to gather additional data

We have 280 vehicles in our fleet and manage 20 additional units in
municipal fleets in a major North American city.

We also have partner organizations with fleets of 10-1500 units that
are interested in a fleet management solution for car sharing

We have developed a fully functional web based car booking system
with fleet management, and a mobile interface for booking and
servicing vehicles

We have a diverse fleet of 30 different vehicle types including
hybrids, electrics, sedans, minivans, hatches, convertibles, and
vans/trucks.

We have 2 inhouse software developers, and two electrical engineers
on staff who develop, manage and support our software and in vehicle
systems
