Free / Paid apps vs. IAP

Hi All,

We're building an app for the 5-7 age group. We're assuming it'll be discovered / downloaded by the parents then played by the child. We're debating between the following two options:

1. A free lite version with a limited set of levels, and a paid version with all the levels included.

Pro:
- simpler code (no IAP code)
- Kids don't accidentally get to IAP
- Easier to let a blogger / reviewer have a promo code

Cons:
- Two versions to maintain
- Parents need to decide they like one, then go to the appstore and download the other
- Reviews for the app will be for the paid version, where we want the parents to check out the free app as well

2. A single version of the app with a few levels unlocked, and the reset under a (well protected) IAP.

Pros:
- One version to maintain.
- Easier to get all the levels in-place, no need for the parents to go to the appstore

Cons:
- Can't send a free version or promo code to bloggers (AFAIK no promo codes for IAPs)
- Need to support IAP

What do you guys typically do? Especially if you do #2, how do you promote to bloggers?

thanks,

Eran
