Each entrepreneur will pitch for five minutes, followed by five minutes of Q & A from the investor panel.

 

There will be door prizes given out to some lucky attendees.


Presenting Startups

 

1.RideAuction (www.rideauction.com) is a unique platform created to utilize transportation providers excess capacity and to allow consumers to negotiate the best price for limo and taxi services in real-time. In a nutshell, this is Priceline.com for limos and taxis.


2. Backpanel Input Methods (www.backpanelinput.com) makes cell phones and tablets "transparent".  Their goal is to re-shape the whole mobile industry by promoting transparency.

3.  Brain Pickin (www.brainpickin.com) is an easy-to-use web application that helps companies create beautiful, interactive and engaging training academies to help educate their clients about their products.

4. Import.io is a data browser which allows people to access data from the web and turn it into actionable information quickly and easily without the need to write any code.

5. Go Factory's (http://www.go-factory.net) Go Machine is a platform-as-a-service for the "Internet of Everything." This platform discovers, connects, and manages private groups of sensors, devices, people, and systems.  This goal is to keep those endpoints synchronized, and  provides them with plug and play, real-time collaboration and communication services.

Roger Royse has practiced tax and corporate law since 1984. He provides services to a wide spectrum of clients, from newly formed startups to publicly traded multinationals, in a broad range of industries. He also practices in the area of angel and venture fund formation.

Roger is widely published on technical tax topics, is a regular speaker for the California CPA Education Foundation and has been an adjunct Professor of Taxation (Property Transactions and International Taxation) for Golden Gate University. Prior to founding the Royse Law Firm, he practiced with the Silicon Valley law firms of GCA Law Partners LLP (formerly General Counsel Associates LLP) and Berliner Cohen, and the New York City office of Milbank Tweed, Hadley and McCloy. Roger is an active member of the American Bar Association Tax Section and Business Law Section.

Steve Bennet

 

Steve Bennet is founder and managing director of Bodega Partners and is an active participant in the Silicon Valley entrepreneurial ecosystem as start-up CFO, angel investor, and professor.

Over the past 20 years, he has been CFO, investor, and/or board member of over 50 technology start-ups, primarily in the software, Internet, and mobile sectors. CFO roles include Revel Systems, iControl Networks, Appstores (acquired by InMobi), Greystripe (acquired by ValueClick), Fliqz (acquired by VBrick Systems), Valchemy (acquired by IBM), GolfWeb (acquired by CBS Sportsline), Orbital Data (acquired by Citrix), TextDigger (acquired by Federated Media), and Pharmacy TV Network (acquired by RMG Networks). Some of these resulted in excellent financial returns to founders and investors, while others did not.

Steve has a passion for both entrepreneurship and education. He has taught entrepreneurial finance since 1995 and is currently adjunct faculty at San Jose State University. Previously, he was a lecturer at U.C. Berkeley. His focus is on experiential education and has developed new courses at SJSU, including the Entrepreneurship Lab (ELAB), Venture Lab (VLAB), and the Silicon Valley Experience. He is also on the Steering Committee for the Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship and UCLA Venture Capital Fund.

Prior to and concurrent with Bodega, Steve was a Venture Partner at Outlook Ventures, Board Member of Sand Hill Angels, Partner at Menlo Incubator and held various financial and management positions at Bay Logics, Digital Microwave, and Arthur Andersen.

Joydeep Bhattacharyya is a Senior Associate at Shasta Ventures where he serves as a Board Observer at Crittercism, Typesafe, LiveIntent and Adometry. He has deep experience in technical, operational and leadership roles in the software industry in India and the US.

 

Formerly with Microsoft, Joydeep managed the 50-person cross-functional team that conceived, developed and launched Lync online – the collaboration and web conferencing component of Office 365 - Microsoft's SaaS productivity suite. Office 365 became one of Microsoft’s fastest growing products, gaining over 5 million purchases in its first three months. He also oversaw the real-time transition of over 10 million existing customers to the new version of the product.

Before Office 365, Joydeep was a developer in Microsoft Office Live where he was awarded two US patents for co-architecting the highly scalable provisioning and merchandising platform. With the extensive grounding in technology development, Joydeep’s investment focus is on companies with a vision to disrupt and improve enterprise and software development workflows. This includes Enterprise SaaS, Cloud Computing infrastructure, Big Data and other related innovations.

Joydeep’s enthusiasm for entrepreneurs isn’t limited to the high tech arena; in 2012, after winning a fellowship grant for rural development, he co-founded a franchise-model goat farming enterprise, bringing national marketing and distribution to rural production in India. When fully scaled, the 30,000-goat venture will create $200 million revenue improving the livelihood of up to 50,000 rural households.

Joydeep earned his MBA from Kellogg School of Management, where he was a CRTI fellow, and a BE degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Jadavpur University.

 

 

Patricia Nakache is a general partner at Trinity Ventures.

Since joining Trinity in 1999, Patricia  has focused on funding companies launching innovative Internet services around fundamental business or consumer needs. Her passion is partnering with entrepreneurs to nail their value proposition and develop a scalable business model. Patricia has active investments in BeachMint, Care.com, Kixeye, PayScale, Ruby Ribbon, and ThredUp, and waspreviously involved with Affinity Labs (acquired byMonster Worldwide), LoopNet (LOOP), MyNewPlace (acquired by RealPage) and Sabrix (acquired by Thomson Reuters, TRI). Prior to Trinity Ventures, Patricia worked at McKinsey & Company, helping enterprises in technology, financial services and retailing identify and address their strategic and operational issues. Previously, she also contributed to FORTUNE magazine and other publications on management best practices in technology companies.

Patricia is a member of the Stanford Business School Trust Investment Committee. Patricia received her M.B.A from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and her A.B. in Physics and Chemistry from Harvard University.

 

 

 

Bill Soby is a principal at Silicon Valley Global Shares.

Bill  has had over thirty five years business experience of which the first eleven were as a sales and marketing executive in the computer industry and subsequently has been both an entrepreneur and venture development consultant and advisor to early stage companies in Silicon Valley encompassing a broad spectrum of state-of-art technologies. He is presently committed to applying his extensive knowledge of the high technology business start up process to support qualified emerging growth companies access much needed growth capital through his new funding paradigm, Silicon Valley Global Shares.

 

Bill obtained his B.S. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and also completed one year of graduate marketing studies at the University of Connecticut. He is the author of a book on international strategic alliances in the Pacific Rim and for four years was an organizer of the Northern California Venture Capital Association’s entrepreneuring program. He was a founder and served as President of the non-profit Silicon Valley Innovation Institute [promulgating applied innovation] and a founder and Board member of the SCI3 Foundation [intellectual property research and training service] a predecessor to the Institute. He has also created course content and taught in an MBA program specializing in entrepreneurism. He has been a speaker at several technology industry business forums.
