About Our Speakers:
Marc Gottschalk is one of a small inner circle in Silicon Valley who pioneered the U.S. cleantech sector and helped shape it into a new driver for global innovation and economic growth. His core areas of practice include advising clean tech and other emerging growth companies in corporation formation and venture finance transactions. Marc also has extensive experience representing companies in complex real estate and environmental matters from property leasing, purchase and sale and development to environmental risk management, regulatory advice. Marc also served as the co-chair of the Energy and Clean Technology practice at a well known high technology law firm. While there, he assisted dozens of innovative clean tech companies go to market.
Prior to joining Sidley, Marc served as chief business development officer and general counsel for Proterra Inc, a manufacturer of advanced electric drive and energy storage solutions for heavy duty vehicles (including its industry leading fast charge EcoRide transit bus).
Marc is the co-founder and board chair of the Cleantech Open, a world-leading organization that provides vital resources inventors and entrepreneurs need to take clean tech innovations from concept to operating business.
Greg Hamm, PhD has broad experience in financial modeling and evaluation, with special expertise in decision analysis, risk management and real options. He has over 25 years of experience using state-of-the-art financial analysis to address difficult management issues and creating solutions in a variety of industries, particularly energy.
Dr. Hamm has directed and advised on financial modeling used in evaluating external M&A opportunities, internal plant and portfolio additions, and equity investments. His work has covered renewable energy, electricity generation, electricity T&D, oil and gas E&P, oil and gas transportation, and oil refining both in and out of the US.
Dr. Hamm is currently CEO of Stratelytics, LLC, a management consulting firm he founded. Dr. Hamm also founded and served as CFO for Agni Corporation, a renewable energy developer focused on India. He was previously a Senior Economist at NERA, a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and a Principal at Applied Decision Analysis.
Dr. Hamm is widely published on topics related to the risk management and financial analysis, and has presented at conferences, seminars, and workshops around the world. He has lectured at Stanford, the University of California, Berkeley, and CSU East Bay. He has taught decision, risk analysis, and valuation to professional groups around the world. Dr. Hamm serves on the board of Alameda Municipal Power. Dr. Hamm is an active angel investor and is a member of Keiretsu Forum Angle Investors and Berkeley Angel Network. Dr. Hamm holds a PhD in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford, and an MS and BS in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in California.
David Rummler is currently Managing Director of Cleantech Strategy Group – advising and mentoring new Clean Technology ventures. His focus is business planning with an emphasis on developing disruptive business models.
He is currently on the Advisory Boards of several Cleantech Open winners: 2013 Energy Efficiency HEVT; 2012 Transportation Rotary Wing Engines; and 2010 Transportation winner Grid Test.
He is also currently teaching graduate Entrepreneurship at Stanford and graduate Sustainability at Notre Dame De Namur Universities. His education experience also includes teaching Strategic Management at San Francisco State University, Global Entrepreneurship at San Jose State University, Statistics at Menlo College and Mathematics at Canada College.
In industry he worked for Tektronix in Oregon managing new software ventures and design automation venture investments. In Silicon Valley, he advised strategy teams including HP divisions, Andersen-Consulting, Apple Computer and smaller new ventures. He also worked for Strategos management consultants on transforming companies and industries. Strategos strategy clients include Nokia, GE Capital, Applied Materials, HP and Royal Dutch Shell.
His government experience includes a Navy career in combat information systems program management and computer technology research management with the Office of Naval Research - developing joint R&D projects across Europe.
David’s education includes Stanford Executive Institute, Computer Science at Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey and Theoretical Mathematics and Business at University of Texas, Austin. David is currently Cleantech Open National Strategic Relationships Chair and past National Mentor program Chair.
Rex Northen is the executive director of the Cleantech Open, a not-for-profit organization that runs the largest accelerator for clean tech startups. Their mission is to find, fund, and foster entrepreneurs with big ideas that address today's most urgent energy, environmental, and economic challenges. Of the nearly 800 companies they have worked with in the U.S., nearly half have gone on to raise external capital now totaling over $800 million.
Rex is an entrepreneur with a history of building and managing companies and successful teams. He has product development, management, and technical expertise having founded and served as CEO with technology companies both in the U.S. and Europe. His background includes the design, development, and implementation of business automation systems, as well as sales, marketing, online marketing and consulting. Rex has worked with many hundreds of companies including a diverse range of startups and global corporations.
