Presentation and Pitch Session: Come listen and pitch to Accel Partners Jake Flomenberg
Founded in 1983 Accel Partners has been committed to helping exceptional entrepreneurs build lasting, category-defining technology companies. After investing in pioneering big data companies such as Cloudera, Facebook, Couchbase, Nimble Storage, and QlikView, Accel Partners will continue to expand its portfolio of companies in the big data sector with the recently announced Big Data Fund 2.
Jake Flomenberg joined Accel in 2012. He has over a decade of experience building innovative software products. He focuses on early stage investments in next generation infrastructure and data-driven services and is part of the team responsible for Accel's Big Data Fund. Jake currently sits on the board of Origami Logic, provider of a visual Big Data analytics platform for marketers, Trifacta, creator of radical productivity software for data preparation and analysis, and Sumo Logic, a cloud-based log management and analytics solution. Prior to Accel, Jake was Director of Product Management at Splunk where he was responsible for Splunk's user interface and Big Data strategy. Previously, he worked at Cloudera where he helped the founding team tackle a broad array of sales, marketing, and product issues. Jake holds a B.S.E. in Computer Science, Electrical Computer Engineering, and Economics from Duke University, an M.S.E in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Learn about their perspectives as to what is they are interested in, what they are investing in and how they operate. We will also talk about their approach to working with companies, and how they are different from other venture capital firms. We will discuss some of the common traits of those companies selected to present to their partnership and those which ultimately were funded.
We will select up to 8 ventures to do 3-minute pitches followed by 3 minutes of feedback.

Chair: Jonathan Baer, Managing Partner of Threshold Ventures is a recovering venture capitalist who has worked with early stage companies for more than 3 decades. He was also the founder and CEO of two venture backed companies, one a spin out from SRI International. Jon now spends his time teaching, mentoring and advising early stage companies around the world. In the past two years he has worked with companies from Silicon Valley, S. Korea, Singapore, Brazil, Colombia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Northern Ireland, Venezuela, Mexico, Denmark, Australia, Tunisia, Norway, and elsewhere. He believes that startups require tough love and need to focus on money, metrics and milestones. He thinks that powerpoint can be your best friend or worst enemy when telling a story. He teaches CEO’s to say less (yes, because less is more).
