Field Trip - Torpedo Factory Arts Center

  • Torpedo Factory Art Center

105 North Union Street, Alexandria, VA (map)

    38.804939 -77.039803

  • At 10:00 a.m. we will carpool and depart the Giant parking lot at 8750 Arliss St., Silver Spring, or meet at Torpedo Factory Art Center at 10:45 a.m. in the lobby – your choice.
  • Come visit a unique historical and artistic site in nearby old-town Alexandria. This former naval torpedo factory is now an art center, filled with interesting sights.

We are free to take pictures in the main hall, and we can ask permission at the individual galleries.  In between shooting you could shop at the many galleries or storefronts (hey, the holiday season is approaching).  The back area abuts to the Potomac River so there are water and boating options to photograph too.

We could spend an hour or so photographing and then head out for lunch nearby. There are several places within walking distance, we can all vote on a selection at the site.

Street parking is free on Sunday!  Or, there are garages nearby.

Info from Wikipedia:   The Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to the largest number of publicly accessible working artist studios in the U.S.  Each year, more than a half-million national and international visitors meet and interact with the community of artists.  It houses more than 82 artists’ studios, 7 galleries and two workshops, with some 165 professional visual artists who produce a diversity of artwork, ranging from painting, ceramics, photography, jewelry, stained glass, fiber, printmaking, and sculpture.

SSCC monthly field trips are a benefit of membership.  Club members meet at interesting photogenic sites in the area ranging from DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware.  You can shoot on your own or team up with a helpful Club member for tips and inspiration.

Club membership is a reasonable $45/year for individuals.  Guests are always welcome to participate.

The fee for non-member guests is $10.00 payable in cash or check to SSCC.
