May Meetup + Startup Asia SG

Startup Asia is coming in May and we are holding our May meet up on Wednesday 7th May so we can have developers & folks working at Tech Startups from around Asia join us as well.

Looking for Speakers for the meet up.

Email me if you like to present at our meet up.

Agenda for 7th May

7:00 pm - Social networking and refreshments

7:30 pm - 1st Presentation - Stephan Wissel,  IBM'er.
Origami for developers - paper can save you tons of time
Using paper prototyping a user interface and application logic can be tested before you burn your midnight oil on making code work. The presentation introduces the dos and don'ts of rapid code-less prototyping and the reasons why you want to do that. Having fun, shorten development cycles and build comprehensive products sounds like a good idea? Then paper prototyping will make a great addition to your toolbox.

8:15 pm - 2nd Presentation - Thomas Dao, Roomorama

How to simplify communication between Activities, Fragments, Threads, Services in Android
In this presentation, we will discuss 3 different ways to communicate between different objects in an Android app:

The simplest way is keeping reference to other objects so we can call method on these objects. (For example: a Fragment may keep reference to its parent Activity and access the Activity via getActivity() method)
The second way to decouple objects is to use Callback object with anonymous class. It is quite simple and very similar to delegate pattern in iOS.
The third way is using EventBus - "an Android optimized publish/subscribe library". This is powerful library, great for decoupling classes.

Hello guys, some of you want to know a bit more on the topic I presented on simplifying communication between Android objects, I updated my slide a bit so it's easier to understand. You can download it here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/52035303/Simplify%20communication%20in%20Android.pdf

      @Jason: no I haven't used that before :)

@Tho Nguyen: Yes forgot to add in the slides, Otto (http://square.github....) is nice alternative to EventBus, serve the same purpose for pub/sub pattern

@chinmay, i think there's no anti aliasing, will probably look better with anti aliasing.

Wow! is it me or is the logo aliasing really bad? I'm Chrome on a non-Retina MBP.

I am pretty bad at graphics, maybe someone with a design/graphics background how it can be fixed.
