This last decade has been possibly one of the best periods that Asia has ever economically experienced. According to the World Economic Forum, the Asian middle-class is expected to jump from 500 million people in 2010 to 1.75 billion by 2020, and Asia will add 1.5 times the entire population of the West to the global middle-class population in just one decade.

Of an estimated $30 trillion growth in spending by the middle-class from 2015 to 2030, only $1 trillion is expected to come from today’s Western economies. The remaining expenditure will come from Asia.

Of such economies, China has been at the forefront of growth and is not expected to slow down. According to IMF statistics, in 1980. America’s share of global GDP was 25% power purchasing parity (PPP) in comparison to China at 2.2%. By 2016, America’s global GDP was only 15.5%, and China’s had exponentially risen to almost 18%.

As we continue on the verge of exciting changes across the globe, and there is no better time to be in Asia. Where are the best places to play in the tech industry in the Asian Century?

Sean Chiu | Head of UX Design @ Lazada, Design Director @ Alibaba

Currently the Head of UX design in Lazada bringing the Alibaba e-commerce design experience to South East Asia market and conducting various user researches on globalocalisation design with cross-border projects to adapt the culture. Before he was appointed to this role, he has been contributing his expertise in user research, service design, creative design, product design and leading many product design projects in different business units inside Alibaba Group.

Previously at Lazada, he was the Product Design Director of Alibaba Music and Live entertainment group. His team has own a 2018 Good Design Award for content design, and through adapting new design methods and technology innovations, his team was able to accelerating service experience upgrade in live entertainment industry in China.

Sean’s role always serve as not only a designer but also a product owner in the company. His unique working philosophy and design practice approach has always brought his design teams stronger voices and had more influence in organisations.

Andre Selton | CMO @ PLATTAR

An arts graduate turned tech-geek; Andre has always had a fascination with Chinese markets. After finishing his studies in Economics and Chinese at the University of Melbourne, he moved into the land of digital marketing.

Andre is the CMO for PLATTAR, one of Australia’s coolest MarTech startups. PLATTAR is an augmented reality product experience platform, the first of its kind to use AR to transform the way customers experience products - at every stage of the product life-cycle.
