What is your favorite beer, or beer style? How about your favorite craft brewery?

I was first introduced to good beer when I was 18 and stationed in Germany. They have some really great lagers, but now I usually prefer the complexity and variety of ales. I typically prefer nice hoppy IPAs, but I love strong complex seasonal ales as well. Dopelbock, dunkleweizen are nice on occasion, and a nice crisp pilsner or lager can't be beat in summer.

Where do you like to drink good beer in Seattle?

Luckily we live in a city that gives us so many options! Elysian and Big Time to name a couple produce some great ales. Brouwer's is great for their amazing selection. I'm hoping to discover some new places through this group!

Do you make beer? Do you collect anything related to beer?

I made a batch or two years ago, but didn't stick with it. I did have quite a collection of beer coasters during after 4 years in Germany. Funny how coasters are so ubiquitous in Europe but never caught on here.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself - where you're from, what you do for a living, what you like to do when you're not working (or drinking beer), etc.

I'm originally from rural Idaho which is still dominated crappy rice beer (what the Germans call mass produced, crappy American beer. Read the label on a Budweiser). I'm in the military and getting ready to retire soon. I love to travel and learn about people and cultures and hope to spend a year or two on the road doing that in the near future. Of course part of the appeal of travel is getting to try new beer wherever I go!

Introduction

Meeting new people and engaging in great conversation over a nice handcrafted beer is one of life's true pleasures. This group seems like a great place to do that!
