******Notice: we now meet up at the Sword Room on the second floor at 1:30, NOT the cafe. Ask a librarian or use the library directory for directions.******
All genres and stages of writing welcome! Limited seating. Please rspv early to get a place and cancel if you can’t come so others can take your place.
This group is for writers, students, and academics to come together for weekly focused writing in a group setting. Whether working on non-fiction, fiction, poetry, blogs, journaling, or professional writing, the writing process can benefit from focused “sit down, shut up, and put words on paper" sessions in a supportive group setting.
This meeting consists of a series of timed writing sessions designed to help develop momentum in the writing process. This is not a critique group, but a supportive space to write.
Our meetup location is the spacious Sword Meeting room on the second floor of Newport Beach Public Library. Arrive between 1:30-2pm for introductions and goal sharing. At 2:00 pm, we begin our first writing session that lasts for fifty minutes. Take a break and do it again!
Participants are encouraged to arrive on time and join both writing sessions, but the door will always be open. You may join at any time and stay for as few or as many writing sessions, depending on your availability and writing needs.
Arrival/Chat/Goal Sharing 1:30-2:00
Writing session 1: 2:00-2:50 (50 min)
Break (20 min)
Writing session 2: 3:10-4:00 (50 min)
Option to continue writing in the room until 5pm.
The library closes at 5pm or 6pm depending on whether there are writer talks that day.
Notes: Our "Just Write" sessions are silent. If arriving during a writing session, please join "write" in. We will do introductions at the next break.
The conference room can be a bit chilly. An extra jacket/sweater recommended.
