Our Spice Journeys continue on to the West African country of Nigeria... A place where hundreds of ethnic groups contribute to a cuisine ranging from a peanut & chili coated meat dish to bean based moi moi to yams in fufu. Not to mention the fermented cereal ogi. Um, yum??

If this piques your curiosity, join us on Monday, September 9th from 6 to 9pm, in the downstairs kitchen/cafe space of the Finnish Hall on Chestnut Street in Berkeley. For three hours we'll learn how Nigerian beans, maggi seasoning, crayfish, hot African peppers and palm oil come together to create the flavors of this colorful west African country. Kaykay Amamgbo of ManMustWak, an African market in downtown Oakland, will be talking through the food history and culture in Nigeria and how it has translated into the Caribbean and the US. She'll describe the spicing, and cook up a few dishes, walking us through her process -- and then we'll get tastes, of course!

The price for the evening is $55, which covers the materials for the class, rental of the space, and a $5 donation to Slow Food and the work we do in the East Bay.
