What we're about

Traditional Scottish, Irish and English Folk Music sessions at a slower pace. Ideal for beginner and intermediate players, but everyone wanting to play welcome!

Sheet music allowed. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere and without an audience and therefore beginner-friendly. Sets are pre-set around a week before the session by the two leaders. Suggestions for future tunes are always welcome!

Since November 2021 we have a new location which is bigger than our previous beloved member hut at the City Road Allotment and therefore more Covid friendly (or better, unfriendly): Dickson Hall, St Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church, 27A Queen St, Tayport DD6 9JZ (parking on-street). The hall is behind the Church, the entry is after the small passageway left of the church.

The event is free but we would be grateful for a £2 contribution to lightening and heating of the hall if you can.

There is tea and coffee and you could even bring your own bottle if you are in the mood :)

Sundays 5:00 - 7:00 PM once a month (usually the 3rd Sunday).

Please don't be put off by the low number of attendees here on the site: most participants of the Slow Sessions are not connected via Meetup but through an e-mail list and WhatsApp group. We usually have between 10 and 16 musicians coming together for each Slow Session.

For additional information, link to dropbox with music sheets, list of sets, tips for beginners: please contact the organiser Heike (heikegleser@yahoo.co.uk).

Slow Session No 67

Needs a location

Hi everyone,

After a short summer break we will be back on the 14/08 for the next Slow Session.

Since November 2021 we have our fabulous new location: Dickson Hall, St Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church, 27A Queen St, Tayport DD6 9JZ. The church is set back from the street- parking is on-street. The hall is behind the Church, the entry is after the small passageway left of the church.

There will be tea and coffee for the break and you could even bring your own bottle if you are in the mood :)

We have two session leaders for this session (around 45 min each): MoragAnne Elder (fiddle) and Ian Smith (flute)! I usually send out the pre-set tune list a week or two before the meeting via e-mail.
Please contact me directly if you are not on my e-mail list or do not have access to the shared dropbox folder.

Suggestions for future tunes or sets are always welcome!

Do not be discouraged by the seemingly low attendance here at Meetup- we are usually around 12- 14 players and mainly connected via e-mail and WhatApp. In March we were 21!

The event is free but we would be grateful for a £2 contribution to help with the heating and electricity of the hall if you can.

We adhere to current Scottish Government Covid regulations. That also means that door and windows stay open! Please do not attend if you have Covid symptoms and consider doing a lateral flow test on the day to keep everyone safe.

Big hug, take care and hopefully see you soon,

Heike
