Rawson Lake/Sarrail Ridge- T4

Rawson Lake is 7.8km and 300m elevation gain. To the ridge 11.3Km 655m elevation gain.

Going to the ridge is a very steep climb up a scree slope with a bit of scrambling involved . - This is not a beginers hike we will however be taking it slow and steady.

No SPEED DEMONS. We must stay as a group on this hike.

We will be going beyond Rawson Lake and get to the ridge but this will depend on the weather and if there are any bears on the ridge. Grizzly bear sightings are commen. We will need to make lots of noise , carry bear spray, and  whistles.

Sarrail ridge is the large slope on the right side of the lake. To access the trail to the ridge make your way clockwise around the lake and follow the steep footpath up to the ridge top with increasingly attractive scenery developing.

It over looks Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes, affords an excellent view of Haig Glacier, and boosts you high enough to see over Mt. Sarrail's shoulder to Mt Foch.

I am not a guide so everyone coming should do their homework and be able to help in navigation. You should also have the right clothes and gear. Be prepared for all weather conditions. Please no cotton clothing or running shoes on this event and bring 2-3 liters of water.

The weather can change quickly so come prepared- warmer layer in your pack, gloves, hat.

There is a bridge out on the trail so we will be crossing a creek - water proof boots or water shoes may be needed.

Bear spray if you have it.

Suggested Car Fare is 20.00

NO CHILDREN and NO DOGS.

Hello! I'm new to this group but an avid hiker (not too fast paced). I know the hike is tomorrow so I hope it's alright that I joined in last minute. Could someone let me know the details of the car fare and if there is still car availability? Or any other details that aren't listed that I should be aware of?

Is the km. you stated one way or return?

    August 21, 2013

    • Candice B.

I believe this is return wayne. the section to get up to Sarrail ridge is very short , very steep, but really worth the effort.

Would this be more difficult or about the same as Ha Ling Peak?

    August 21, 2013

    • Candice B.

There are steeper sections to this hike and some scrambling bits. Those sections are harder than anything on Ha Ling but most of the hike is easier.
