Rawson Lake Snowshoe (T3, RSVP Open February 3, 7:00 AM)

  • Feb 9, 2013 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Rawson Lake is yet another gem in the great O’Canadian winter wonderland. Let's enjoy an outing in beautiful surroundings with great company while getting a ‘noble’ workout.

Our pace will be relaxed. Slow to moderate.

Please read the entire posting before RSVP'ing to be sure this hike is appropriate for you. Late cancellation or No Show would make the event organizer and other participants not happy.

Winter trips are dependent on weather conditions and for that reason the morning of the trip please check the website to make sure the trip is not cancelled due to weather conditions.

Note: Please plan to meet at carpool about 10-15 minutes prior to departure time so we can get organized and leave right on time. Our hiking pace will be moderate (no slowpokes, no speed demons) it will not be a race to the top. Will be walking at a moderate pace so that we can enjoy the hike; this is for the safety, health and enjoyment of all hikers. We will be stopping for great views, photos, rest breaks and occasional head count. Also, if you cannot stay with the group please refrain from signing up.

Hiker requirements: Healthy enough to complete the hike, have fun and enjoy the sun.

Distance: 8 kilometers
Elevation gain: 350 m
Duration: 3-4 hours plus driving time. Please note: duration is approximate, always expect the unexpected and come prepared.

On our way home we will be stopping for a coffee/bite to eat at Kananaskis Village.

Directions: Take the Trans Canada Highway west from Calgary for approximately 70 km, then turn south on Highway 40 for approximately 50 km. Turn right onto Kananaskis Lakes Trail and follow the signs to the Upper Lake parking lots. Park in the lot on your left hand side.

Gear requirements:
Snowshoes, MICROspikes, Hiking poles
Dress appropriately for the weather (no jeans)
Hiking boots (unless you are going shopping, runners are not appropriate footwear)
Bear Spray if you have it
Extra Snacks and/or Packed Lunch, Water
Camera (optional)
Pack garbage out

Suggested passenger fare/costs: $20.00 for gas per person in cash paid to your driver.

Please read the following:

Who can attend: No dogs please. No children for this hike. Members only.

Waivers: As per the new policy for waivers; I will bring the group waiver form with me to both the Calgary Meetup location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.

Hi! I would please like to bring a friend along. He would like to see what Meetups are about. He is an experienced snowshoer. Is that okay?

Hi! I would please like to bring a friend along. He would like to see what Meetups are about. He is an experienced snowshoer. Is that okay? I can drive but would prefer not to because my car is small and if it has been snowing will be iffy.
