Best of the 2012 Banff Mountain Film Festival & James Joyce Irish Pub

This event is ideal for those who have dreamed of doing what these people do, but dare not for fear of loss of life or limb...or both.

  • Elevation: 0 m max gain achieved when you stand up and sit down between movies
  • Time: 2-3 hours in your seats at a moderate pace
  • Location: John Dutton Theatre at the Calgary Public Library - 616 Macleod Trail S.E.
  • Who can attend: Members, no children, guests, dogs or movie snoozers.

As always your Host is a volunteer and not a movie-goer. All participants are responsible for assessing the current conditions. You are fully prepared with proper approved organic vegan movie snacks...yah right!

Now for the serious stuff...

"The Banff Mountain Film Festival is one of the flagship programs of The Banff Centre. The Festival began more than 35 years ago in 1976 in the small Rocky Mountain town of Banff, Alberta. A tight-knit group of climbers and outdoor folk looked for an annual event to entertain them during the shoulder season between climbing and skiing. As the story goes, several late night meetings and a few beers later The Banff Festival of Mountaineering Films was born. What began as a one-day festival of climbing films, has now blossomed into a nine-day event in Banff and a year-round film tour which encompasses over 500 screenings on all continents (yes, we go to Antarctica!). Past Festival speakers have included climbing leaders and explorers such as Doug Scott, Reinhold Messner, Sir Edmund Hillary, Catherine Destivelle, Lynn Hill, Bradford Washburn, Göran Kropp, Greg Child, and many, many others."

We'll be enjoying Program 2 at the Sunday Matinee at 1:00 - February 10th. To read about the films being shown, click on the link and select the tab "Programs & Films"

http://www.mountainfilm.ca/

To purchase tickets you can either do it online "Schedule and Tickets" or in person at MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop)

Please RSVP AFTER you have your tickets purchased

We'll meet at the Library at the John Dutton Theatre before the show. If we are early enough we ought to be able to find seating together. After the movies we'll hike 1.2 km to the James Joyce Irish Pub (114 8 Avenue Southwest Calgary) to enjoy a pint, a bite and continued conversations.

What time should we meet to sit together? How's downtown parking on Sunday these days?

    February 5, 2013

    • Paul M

We were told that they would have our tickets available for us there about 45 minutes before the show. Parking should be ample on a Sunday.

    • George

I'll be picking up Anne and my tickets about 45 minutes before the show, but it would be good to have a muster point so that we can attempt to sit together.

Love the above "Movie Waiver". I sure hope what we will see is better than whatever the people in the photo were watching. I'm sure it will be. :)
