3/4 fishing trip on the Victory, long beach

Finally - ANOTHER VICTORY TRIP!!!!

If you have wanted to go fishing with our group and have been looking for the right opportunity - this is it.  This is the one.  Whether you've never been fishing or are an experienced angler, this trip will be great for you.

This is such a great boat.  Here's why:  Cap'n Mike and his trusty crew are great guys - really nice and extremely helpful. The beauty of the VICTORY is that everyone is assigned a spot to stand on the boat. This means no worrying about other anglers trying to snag your spot (rude!!).  Thing is, we have to get there early, early, early - or all the good spots will be sold out.

Here's the plan:

Event: 3/4 day fishing on the Victory

When: July 7, 2012. Saturday. Boat leaves at 6:00 a.m. and return between 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (recommend getting to landing by 4:00-5:00 a.m.)

Where: Pierpoint Landing, Long Beach

Ticket price: $55.00 per person at the landing (no guarantee on spot). Tickets go on sale around 5:00 a.m. People start getting in line for the good spots at about 3:30 a.m.!!

Here is the good news-I have just received word from the landing,  as a group,  we will one again get the discount of 10 bucks,  so we only have to pay $45!  COOL!!!

Parking: $3.00; If parked in spots 1-21 in the main parking lot. Get a pass and put it in your car dashboard. If you are not in the first 21 spaces. Get a token and go park in the secondary parking lot that is past the bridge. Parking enforcement is very strict. You can also park in the parking structure (prices unknown).

Rental rods are around $10.00, Day licenses are $14.04 per person. Everyone over 16 needs to have a fishing license. If you need to rent rods or get a day license I recommend getting to the landing around 5:00 a.m.. The office will be busy with people buying tickets and licenses.

Here,   however,  is the good news...if you have not had a chance to get out fishing this year before this event,  you won't need a license for this day!!!  July 7th is a free fishing day!! http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fishing/freefishdays.html

Tackle: you only need to buy some 3-4oz torpedo sinkers and hooks - sizes 2 or 4. 12lb test line is good but I've used 8, 10, 20....

Bring money for the galley (food), parking ($3.00), jack pot on the boat (optional $5.00), tip money for the crew (recommend $5.00), and money for cleaning the fish (if you want your fish filleted, etc. - this is completely optional).

If this is your first time on a party boat, other members will be happy to help you out. The deckhands will help you, too. No worries! Email me with any questions.  We had a ball last July on the Victory,  and caught tons of Barricuda and Sculpin.

So - are you in???

The captain was trying hard to find us the fish. He would be on the scanner radio and on the phone to get updates from other boat captains. He found us the fish.

Another fun trip on the Victory! Great to meet the cool folks from ENERGIZED! Outdoor activities! Fishing was a bit tough, the sardines were huge so it made hooking up with the Barricudas a bit tough, but there were plenty of rock fish and Red snapper to go around. All in all, another great day out on the big pond with very cool company!

OK, just to remind everyone, this boat will be out till about 5pm so plan accordingly, I thought Kim knew how long it would be and it seems 3/4 day meant 4 hours to her, this will take a nice dinner to make up for :-) see you there

Do we need to bring bait, if so what will be best?

Folks-one final thing, get there early especially if you need a rental rod, with lots of people attending, there could be a limited supply! I will be bringing along 3 rods, if someone needs to borrow one feel free to! If anyone else would like to bring along an extra rod or two just in case, that would be great too!

Folks-I called the landing, they said it is best to just get there very early, first come first serve since I did have anyone prepay for this event. They said the boat rarely sells out, but just get there early-about 4:30, if not earlier! I will be there to give you a tag to put your name on, not only so we can see on the boat that you are part of the group, but also that you can show them the tag at the landing and get the $45 price...be there early!!

Is anyone coming from Pasadena Area who I can catch a ride with?

    July 1, 2012

  • Terry

People-gonna be a bit crowded on the boat! I see, with our members, plus guests, and some folks from another site, we are at about 40-45 people! I believe the boat has a capacity of about 90! I am gonna call the landing tomorrow to let em know how many we have, to make sure you all have spots on the boat! Please email me the names of the folks who are attending with you as well! Not sure if I need those names, just kind of a "just in case" type of thing!

most of that is explained up above. Do bring some lighter sinkers too, in case we end up fishing shallower. Most heavy action freshwater bass equipment is good for what we will be doing. Get some swivels too, usually the three way type.

what type of set ups should we be using? Weight and hook sizes?

We do have an excellent shot that time of year at Barricuda. Last year we also caught Calicos and Sugar Bass, there were prolly some sand bass caught too. Yes, we did some rockfishing too, the whole boat had limits of sculpin. However, July is usually a good time for something other than rockfish.

    April 17, 2012

  • Peter P.

hey do we have a chance @ top water fishes....(sand bass etc....) or is it still all rockfish .......? thanks

    April 17, 2012

  • Terry

Folks-I have a message into the Captain about a possible $10 discount like we had last year, as well as seeing about giving us spots to fish next to each other in advance like last year. If and when I hear back I will let ya'll know, but even if we don't get a few bucks off, let's go fishing! Still a good deal on a great boat!
