• So-Cal Polyamory - Dinner and Discussion at Fuddruckers
Greetings!!! It is once again time to have our monthly Southern California Polyamory Meetup!!! Our meetup is in the beautiful Downtown Burbank (click here for the downtown Burbank website) (http://www.downtown-burbank.org/index.php) Fuddruckers. There is a lot to do in downtown Burbank before the meetup so I encourage everyone to take a look at the website. Several movie theaters, clothing shops and the Media Center Mall and more :-) The meetup will begin at 8pm and Fuddruckers closes at 11pm. Please come and join us for a good time, good food and a great opportunity to meet new friends. Typically, discussions range from polyamory to current events, personal stories through our dreams for the future. I encourage people to move around and get to know one another. Please also feel free to move the tables and chairs as we have the entire room for the group. Bring your questions, and be ready for a fun night of socializing. We do not typically have a planned discussion or group topic, but if you have one, feel free to bring it up. I also set up a discussion thread for topics (click here). Dress is always casual, so don't worry about dressing up, though some do dress up if they are thinking of heading out to any number of clubs that are located just over the hill in Hollywood. Please bring the family, kids too. We have had newborns, toddlers, school age kids and teens at our events in the past. There are a few arcade games at the restaurant. The meetup typically has between 15-20 people, sometimes more. (This is a joint meetup for Loving More and the Southern California Polyamory Meetup Groups) The old rules still apply. 1. Everyone is required to order something to help support the venue, and everyone is on their own bill. We want Fuddruckers to be happy with us as a group and we want them to welcome us back. 2. Please do not arrive before 8pm. There is plenty to do in downtown Burbank, including free wi-fi. There is usually a party meeting in the yellow room before us, so please do not disturb them. Our area will be roped off for us. :-) 3. A $2 donation (or more) is always appreciated to help me cover the fee Meetup charges me to organize the event. 4. This is a family friendly event, I have been bringing my own children to the Meetup since they were about 7 years old. They are now adults, but still occasionally show up. If you bring your own children, please be willing to supervise them. Because of the children and the nature of the meetup, this I do not consider the event a "pick up" event. While connections hopefully will be made, this is a discussion and dinner with friends event. 5. There is a lot of parking in downtown Burbank. Parking is either on the street, in the lot off of First and Magnolia, the lot on Orange Grove between First and San Fernando, or in either of the lots on Orange Grove between San Fernando and Third. There is also parking at the mall (1 block away) and on the street. (In other words, there is lots of parking available, but it does fill up, so take this into account when planning your arrival time). I look forward to seeing everyone there! • Spider Robinson’s Poly Primers - Live the Dream October Event
Saturday October 20,[masked]am- 4 pm Spider Robinson’s Poly Primers All Hallows Eve event follows at 6 pm Note: Ladies free for both events with pot luck dish to share—same price as gentlemen otherwise. Gentlemen (pot luck dish appreciated): Paid members of Live the Dream: $5 for each event, $7.50 for both. Non-Members: $10 for each event or $15 for both events. Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon introduces a group of people who support each other in handling their problems and celebrating their joys. In this and later books they go beyond this to actual group telepathic communication. In Callahan’s Keys they show their commitment to each other by all moving out-of- state together when local laws and the abuse of them prevented them from meeting together where they were. According to Spider’s biographical material, many of the metaphysical as well as the group related experiences come from his real-life ones with his expanded family and close friends during the ‘60 s in Haight Ashbury. The Lady Callahan books are definitely Poly as committed couples share their partners’ with customers of this high class brothel/ international diplomacy center. The “artists” who work there have relationships with the Lady herself, other artists (some of which include legal marriage), etc. Lady Callahan’s place could itself be considered a group house since the artists and some of their partners actually do live there. Spider’s Star Dance series features very unusually configured group marriages— combining extra-terrestrials with humans, gays with straights who share mental “intercourse” etc. Eventually his proposed intentional Family includes the whole human race, past, present and future. Spider has written many other stories with incidental poly themes in fictional (?) worlds where it is assumed any choice of whom and how many you love is OK. He has been called the new Heinlein by many. How can we use this information in our own group living and multiple committed relationship efforts? 1 PM Pot Luck lunch—bring something healthy and delicious to share 2-4 Socializing in clothing optional Hot tub (which will be available all evening, too, except during the ritual.) Maybe we will watch Nightmare Before Christmas, Paint Your Wagon or Polyamory: Married and Dating at 4—or continue socializing in the hot tub--as the group desires. As a bonus, at 6PM We are having another meetup that everyone is welcome to join us for. • Intro to Tantra led by David Harris The September Live the Dream event
Saturday September 15 11am to 4 pm Intro to Tantra led by David Harris Tantra is the merging of two (or more) energies to create something greater. It can be sexual, intimate, and enlightening, for tantra is a type of yoga (breathing) that is often called "a fast path to enlightenment." David has planned an experiential presentation. He will demonstrate the Tantra exercises with Terry, allow couples (or those who find a partner at the meeting) to practice it together and singles to experience a guided meditation for drawing a tantric partner into your life. How does this (temporary) merging of beings work with Polyamory? One way to deal with this integration is through a puja (a sacred ceremony often done in a circle), where everyone gets to interact with everyone else. Once the puja is done in such a group there is time to talk about how our experiences affect our perceptions of poly and how we will move into the future with this knowledge and practice. David gave Live the Dream an intimate, memorable Tantra workshop in our first year 1987. We are delighted to welcome him back. 1 PM Pot Luck lunch—bring something healthy and delicious to share 2-4 Socializing in clothing optional Hot tub—bring sandals and a towel. The time may vary depending on the will of the group to explore the subject of Tantra more deeply, but the hot tub will be available until 5:30. This event is followed by a FILK Sing event Saturday September 15 6pm to 11pm Filking: Come Sing Poly/Science Fiction Themed Songs with Us! 6 PM POT LUCK DINNER 7 PM SINGING STARTS! Filk is Science Fiction folk songs—songs based on science fiction books, movies and the real-life space age. Folk singing has been an accepted part of SF conventions for many years. It has evolved into a kind of music which used the tunes of (mostly) well known standards ranging from the very American “She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain” to the Irish “Whiskey in the Jar” as a base for words suited to SF and Space (and Poly!) oriented themes. Sometime in the early 50s there was a typo which turned the word Folk into Filk giving this type of music and song its own genre… ultimately its own community. Many original songs, both music and lyrics, have also been created for Filk.

  • Live the Dream August: SWINGING TO POLY—BLACK AND WHITE OR SHADES OF GRAY?
SWINGING TO POLY—BLACK AND WHITE OR SHADES OF GRAY? Led by Marcus Brussel Jenkins Some poly people are former or “evolved” swingers. They discovered they wanted more from a relationship than the sex alone could give them. Others may straddle both worlds as they attend poly gatherings and “permissive” parties. Hopefully these folks have read Bouquet of Lovers (please see full article on the CAW web site caw.org/content/?q=bouquet) and practice safe sex! At Life Styles Conventions given by Wide World of Swingers, Hospitality was handled by a group of people who had known each other over many conventions. They had worked closely together on all the details of making a big convention successful for those giving it and those attending it. Some may have originally met at one of those parties which were frankly Swing parties, had sex and not asked their partner’s name. After working together for years, going to each other’s weddings and kids Bar Mitzvahs as well as social gatherings of all kinds for holidays, etc. any love making they do with each other is no longer casual and is certainly not anonymous. Even if they still call themselves swingers, they are probably poly by most definitions. Might swing parties be one way to introduce people to the poly life style while looking for potential love partners who may not yet know they are poly? 1pm Pot Luck lunch, Bring something healthy and delicious to share. 2-3 Discussion of how to actually implement in your own lives what you have learned of Tantra. 3-4 pm Socialize in the clothing optional Hot tub. Bring sandals and a towel.

  • So-Cal Polyamory - Dinner at Fuddruckers (DATE CHANGE)
Greetings!!! I had to change the date of this months meetup. This months meetup will be on the 2nd weekend, August 11, 2018, because there is a HUGE classic car show on our usual night. This would have made parking a complete nightmare so I made the decision to move the meetup one week forward. I do hope everyone can make the event. If you are interested in the car show, here is the event page of it. https://www.visitburbank.com/events/downtown-burbank-car-classic-2018/ It is once again time to have our monthly Southern California Polyamory Meetup!!! • Live the Dream July: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A Heinlein
Saturday July 21,[masked]am to 4pm Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A Heinlein Moon Is a Harsh Mistress for real OR GROUP LIVING POSSIBILITY? An integral part of this story involves multigenerational group marriage—line marriage. Line marriage is a multigenerational marriage which can last for centuries as young people opt in and older people pass on... Line marriage is the strongest possible device for conserving capital and insuring the welfare of children - the two basic societal functions for marriage everywhere - in an environment in which there is no security, neither for capital nor for children, other than that devised by individuals. Line marriage is a remarkably successful invention to that end. A line marriage has the advantages of financial security, the fine home life it gives children; they simply could not be orphaned. 1pm Pot Luck lunch 2-4 pm Socialize in the clothing optional Hot tub.
