• Korean Action Comedy Night - Extreme Job!

    Private Residence

It’s the return of our popular foreign film night! This month we’ll be watching a Korean action comedy about a rag tag group of cops doing a stakeout in a fried chicken restaurant and end up running the place! Extreme Job - trailer: https://youtu.be/l9Hu3Xocc-g 6:30pm - Meet at one of member’s home in the Rancho Bernardo area. Address will be emailed the night before or the day of the event. You can bring food to share that fits the theme of the movie. In this case, Korean and fried chicken. Chicken tenders with Korean bbq dipping sauce would be awesome! Also drinks, veggie and fruit trays are always good to bring. Please let us know what you’re bringing in the comments below. 7:00pm - We’ll start the movie which is around 2 hours. Hope you can make it! Please make sure you unRSVP if you can’t make it so others can go if there’s a waitlist.

  • SWT: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

    A private residence in Clairemont

The prequel to the 1982 has been picked up by Netflix, and we're going to watch all of it, together! Come reminisce and try to re-conjure that child-like wonder! Sep 3: The original 1982 movie Sep 10: Ep 1 & 2 Sep 17: Ep 3 & 4 Sep 24: Ep 5 & 6 Oct 1: Ep 7 & 8 Oct 8: Ep 9 & 10 Originally starting with Stranger Things (thus "Strangers Watching Things" as our name), we've continued this weekly event with shows such as: Westworld, Dark, and The OA. Generally we like shows that get us to think in new ways, but the real treat is exploring the possibilities of the world the show is set in. This is a conversation-oriented casual viewing party, but the intent is to watch the show so we'll pause for any serious discussion. You can talk as little or as much as you like, so we are one of the most introvert-friendly events. Location is my house (the pin is not correct). I'll message the attending & waitlisted privately with my address (generally the day before), then announce that here. If you see my announcement but don't get the email, check your meetup settings and privately message me. Snacks & drinks brought to share are appreciated, I most appreciate the variety of tastes people have in snacking, so bring something you love! The only thing I insist on is updating your RSVP if you will not make it (ALN as a whole is also strict on this). We usually stay an hour or two after the viewing for banter about the show, theories for upcoming episodes, and increasingly tangential topics. Active Lifestyle Nerds, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization, dedicated to ending adult loneliness through building a welcoming nerdy community. Our 20 organizers volunteer their time to hold 25-30 Meetup events per month in and around San Diego County, but that does not cover Meetup and administrative fees. • Wino Wednesday

  • Coloring Books and Brews...and Wine and Chocolate!

    Eclipse Chocolate Bar & Bistro

It's been a rough week. Let's get together, wind the week down while enjoying some beer and coloring books! Who doesn't love a bit of coloring! So bring your colored pencils, markers, crayons and coloring books and we will hang out while enjoying some craft beer. And this month, for those who don't drink beer, there's wine! And if you don't drink any alcohol at all, Eclipse has a great selection of drinking chocolates. :) Location: Eclipse Chocolates in South Park. I will be there between 5:30 and 6 pm for set up. Event officially starts at 6 pm. We have the back room reserved, so feel free to show up when you can. I normally stay until around 9 pm. Eclipse is open until 11 pm. Feel free to show up when you can! As for parking, my only recommendation is not to park in the Target lot, or risk being towed. Otherwise, it's the same for most other spots in the area - street parking. What to bring: Coloring books, colored pencils, markers or crayons and pencil sharpeners! I have a few coloring books to share, and colored pencils, but it will be best if you can bring your own set to use! Feel free to come with a sketchbook and doodle as well :) What not to bring: Your troubles and worries. Leave them at the door! We will be in a No Stress Zone! This is an event for chatting about fun things and relaxing. Eclipse Chocolates is also a bistro, and has a lovely list of foods to choose from. Happy hour runs all evening long for us nerds! $5 drinks and $1 truffle pairings! *********** Active Lifestyle Nerds, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization, dedicated to ending Adult loneliness through building a welcoming nerdy community. • Game Night: Settlers of Catan!

    Game Empire (New Location)

Settlers of Catan nights will be held monthly so if you miss this one, make sure you RSVP for future events since spots will be limited. About the Game: For those of you that haven't played before, Settlers is a popular strategy game that, while it may seem complex at first, is amazingly fun to play after you learn the rules! Definitely give it a shot, it's easily one of my favorite board games. It typically takes about an hour to play so we'll usually play 1 or 2 games until Game Empire is forced to kick us out (they close at 10 PM). RSVP Limit: I'll be keeping the RSVP limit to 15 people. I always bring a standard game and an expansion set to support up to 6 people, so please bring your copy if you have one so we can get more games going simultaneously. Attendance: Please update your RSVP accordingly so people that want to join in on the awesomeness of Catan can get the chance to do so. If something comes up at the last minute, that's fine, just post on the meetup or message me so I'm aware about it. How to Play the Game: For those that are new to Catan, I'd highly recommend checking out this awesome tutorial video below to learn the basics of the game prior to coming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mco5SL4-y-c About the Venue and Where to Find Us: Game Empire is located right off the 805 on the intersection of Clairemont Mesa Blvd and Shawline Street. There will be a bunch of tables set up on the left side of the store so just look for a guy wearing glasses and a video game or Star Wars shirt (me) setting up a game. Nearby Food: The small shopping center has the following restaurants: Souplantation, McDonald's, Niban Japanese Restaurant, Starbucks, Elijah's Restaurant & Delicatessen, and Chipotle. Also, across the street, there is an Arby's and Mom & Dom's Pizza. Game Empire also sells snacks and drinks if you want something smaller.

  • ALN Monthly Book Club - YEARLY BOOK CLUB SELECTION!

Join us for our annual book club selection meeting! We will be taking suggestions for books to read throughout the months leading up to this event, and then voting on our favorites at this meetup! If you have suggested a book, please be prepared to stand up in front of a group and tell us why we should read your suggestion for Nerdy Book Club, or have someone else available who can speak on your book's behalf. Books may be suggested at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QLPBXG7 The books submitted to date may be found at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eEz0p86J6b5UOV1iQEjTrm6IGizuo5k1ge_Y2TwJi60/edit?usp=sharing. For more information on how to find the group at the park: We meet at Presidio Park at the top of the hill, at whatever picnic tables we can grab in the shade, as close to the bathrooms as we can get without it getting smelly. 32°45'26.1"N 117°11'33.4"W It is highly recommended you bring a folding chair or a blanket to lay on the ground. We usually sit atop pine needles, but some people are able to sit on the picnic tables or in the grass if any is nearby. We hope to see you there! Future books will be shown at the bottom of event descriptions for future book club events to keep all book-loving nerds informed of the tentative schedule of books.

  • Chocolate, Board Games, and Beer!

    Eclipse Chocolate

Eclipse is hosting a board game night. Happy hour All Night --$5 for any beer or wine!!! Eclipse has a full menu for dinner, plus special smothered fries. Look forward to seeing you there! What to Bring? Any games you would like to play. Eclipse will have some games, but if there is something in particular you would like to play, please bring it with you. Parking Parking in South Park is all street parking. I do not recommend parking in the Target parking lot as you may be towed. However, South Park should not be too busy on a Tuesday night. Plenty of public transportation is available, too, but we only recommend this for people familiar with the routes and time tables.
