This is a camping and kayaking trip to Scorpion Camp ground on Santa Cruz Island which is located 26 miles off the Ventura coast. We will take our kayaks (plastic boats only) on a Ferry over to the Island and paddle along the Island's beautiful shoreline and explore sea caves along the way. The Ferry leaves Ventura Harbor in the morning and returns from Scorpion leaving the Island in the afternoons. You are welcome to come for one, two or all three nights. This is a joint posting with the Redondo Beach Kayaking Group. Our paddles will be relatively short (from 3 to 6 miles). Thursday is usually a 3 or 4 mile paddle in the afternoon with Friday, Saturday and possibly Sunday being the 6 mile paddles. Some people opt out of a paddle or two and do some hiking on the wonderful hiking trials on the Island or merely enjoy the camp group.
Each person must make their own reservation on the ferry and if they need to rent a kayak there is a kayak rental shop right next door to the ferry that you must make arrangements in advance. If you need information about the kayak rentals please contact me. We have a group camp site reserved. There are no hotels or stores on the Island so we must all camp and bring our food along with us. There is water on the Island and restrooms, but no showers.
The ferry costs approximately $100 round trip, the kayak rentals are approximately 100. If you like you can also contribute for the small cost of the camp site. If you are interested in going please sign up and email me, so that I can give you more exact information about the trip and contact numbers for the Ferry and kayak rentals.
We help each other during the trip and during the paddles but none of us are there in the role of instructor or guide and all who attend are all responsible for their own safety.
