Thanks to Lisa for sharing about this.
Hundreds of volunteers (individuals and church groups) join together for the Compton Initiative. Volunteers help with painting, cleaning, landscaping, and other tasks for schools and homes in Compton.
Note: Being religious or a part of a church group is not required. I could be wrong...my impression is they welcome anyone/everyone who wants to help.
Volunteers first meet together in the morning and are then placed into small groups and assigned a home/school.
Children/minors can help with adult (parent/guardian) approval.

Tools and supplies are usually provided. Wearing old clothes and closed-toe shoes that can get dirty are recommended. Lunch, water, and a light breakfast snack are usually provided.
Refer to their FB page for the latest updates and the meeting location/address (it's usually a school or city hall):
When parking, look for people wearing yellow t-shirts on the street/side-walk. They will direct you on where to park.
If any members want to work together, consider coordinating with one another beforehand and maybe exchange contact info and decide how best to find each other.
There are multiple sites to help with. Your choice. Look for signs that say "Site" followed by a number and pick a group to join.
