Hi. If you are using the Meetup mobile app on your phone, look down a few lines below and tap the red-colored "Read more" to expand the description.
TAP THIS ---------
If you are using a computer or laptop/notebook, then you should be fine.
Okay, everybody should now be able to see the full description on their screen.
Reminder for everyone: If Meetup sends too many emails, then look at the bottom of their email and click Unsubscribe or Manage your settings or account page.
Recommended for anyone new to this group or volunteering for the first time:
Would anyone want to attend this event and help host?
Hosting isn't hard.
It involves being a point of contact in case others sign up and want to meet & volunteer together.
If your plans/availability change, and you can't attend anymore, that's fine, just let us know and maybe someone else can step up to host, but if not, it's okay and we can cancel this meetup.
I try to spread the word about volunteer opportunities and raise awareness about non-profits/charities that do good work.
This event is from Special Olympics.
Special Olympics Fall Games is a 2 day event on November 9 - 10.
"Be inspired by athletic determination and courage. Come cheer on [hundreds of] athletes from across Southern California as they compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals and ribbons at Fall Games."
"The Games will feature five sports — golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball."
If interested in cheering the athletes, different sports occur throughout the morning and afternoon, so you can choose which sport to watch and when to arrive and leave.
Info on the sporting events, times, & locations -
Most (if not all) events allow spectators to just show up. The event is free so they don't check for tickets or anything like that, but if anyone wants to register to be a "Fan in the Stand," go to:
To volunteer, go to
and click "Register Now" or "Login"
Different volunteer roles/shifts are available to choose from.
After registering with them, they can provide more info/details (when to arrive, where to park, what to help with, etc.).
Registration for volunteers might become full because they get a lot of support from companies, other groups, individuals, etc.
However, sometimes they have no-shows and late cancellations, so if anyone really wants to volunteer, show up early on Sat or Sun morning (for example, around 7am or 8am or maybe even 9am), and maybe some volunteer spots will open up. But if walk-on volunteers aren't needed, they accept and welcome volunteers to sit in the audience/crowd and cheer.
Parking at the park should be free.
The closest parking lots are accessible from Brookhurst Street...between Edinger Ave & Warner Ave.
Since some sports/events are outdoors, consider wearing/bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, water, umbrella, etc. if it's hot outside.
Note: If any group members want to watch a sporting event together, maybe post a comment of which sport you want to watch or what time you want to attend, and maybe others can join you in cheering on the athletes. Coordinate among yourselves on when and where to meet each other.
And if any group members want to volunteer together, maybe post a comment on what role/shift you signed up for, and maybe others can sign up too and join you.
However you participate, you should have an unforgettable day.
Some athletes may have encountered ridicule, rude remarks, mean jokes, disrespectful/cruel treatment, or patronizing attitudes in their lives. Maybe some have heard they are abnormal, they are different, or they can't do this or that. Well, this is a wonderful opportunity for them to feel accepted, valued, and successful.
