Red Rock Canyon Hike and Lunch

26701 Portola Pkwy

Red Rock Canyon Hike and Lunch Whiting Ranch, Borrego Trail Entrance 26701 Portola Pkwy, Foothill Ranch, CA 92610 Saturday, July 25th, 2020; 9:00 am to 12:30 pm This event has been modified to include a beginner hike to Red Rock Canyon and back which is a 4.2 mile hike with 500 feet rise and fall. The intermediate hike remains unchanged. We will begin together, separate where the paths divide and rejoin for lunch and fellowship under the oaks. Ben will take one group and Jack will take the other group. Join us for a walk along the Borrego Trail, Mustard Road, and Vista Lookout Road to Vista Lookout. Backtrack to Borrego Trail then Red Rock Trail to Red Rock Canyon. This is a good 6 mile hike with one gradual climb of 600 ft. Total elevation up and down on the hike is 1000 ft. At the Vista Outlook, there is a grand view of the center of Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. Red Rock Canyon is a cool destination with red rock walls rising all around you. While walking along Borrego Trail we are in a sheltered glen frequently shaded with tall oaks. There are restrooms in the McDonald's and Bellaria Coffe House near the trailhead. This hike is rated Intermediate! If you have not been hiking, you should not come on this hike. We will meet at the kiosk statue at the trail beginning. Free parking is available across Portola Parkway on the other side of McDonald's. We can bring our lunch and stop on the way out in a shaded area for lunch and fellowship. No pets are allowed in this park. At the time of preparing this description in mid June, the park is temporarily closed because of mountain lion activity. The Meetup platform has a great messaging system so we can interact and discuss parking, lunch, and other issues among all RSVPd members. Dealing individually with a number of texts and emails is just not viable while commencing and during an event. Handling multiple Meetup groups also adds complexity, so everyone should RSVP using the Orange County Singles for Christ Meetup group. https://www.meetup.com/OC-Singles-for-Christ/events/ This event is hosted by Jack Miller[masked] or [masked] By registering for this event through Meetup, you assume the risks of the event and agree to release our organization, the event host, and other participants from claims for any and all injuries or other losses sustained during this event.

Huntington Beach Bike Trail Ride and Lunch

Saturday, August 8th, 2020; 8:30 am to 12:00 pm Join us for our third bike ride after our spring break. We will ride the Huntington Beach Bike Trail beginning at Superior and P.C.H. See the trail route in the photos below. https://www.google.com/maps/place/33%C2%B037'22.9%22N+117%C2%B056'16.4%22W/@33.623023,-117.9384406,222m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d33.623023!4d-117.9378878 There are restrooms all along the bike trail. This is a multi-level ride. Beginners will be able to ride until they reach their limit and turn back, the intermediate pack will ride to Sunset Beach, and the advanced riders may go to Long Beach. At 10:30 we will turn back and meet for lunch at Channel Park https://www.google.com/maps/place/33%C2%B037'16.0%22N+117%C2%B056'13.7%22W/@33.621123,-117.9376935,245m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d33.6211225!4d-117.9371447 The designated ride to Sunset Beach is 10.5 miles. Fun riding within socializing distance is our goal. Come enjoy the company of other like-minded riders. Social distancing is the personal discretion of each rider. Please be considerate and stay home if you have any signs of illness or uncomfortable feelings. There are a few parking options. The parking lot in which we are gathering charges $2.55 per hour using the app parkmobile.com zone 9755. You'll want to download the app and set up an account before Saturday morning. Hoag hospital has an open free lot just to the east of the intersection. I spoke with an employee. He said that if the lot is not coned off, we should use it. If you want to be safe, to the east of the big free lot, Hoag has a parking structure that charges $5 for 4 hours, $8 for all day. There is a residential area on the south side of PCH. Parking spaces are difficult to find but some are available. I would discourage parking in the strip mall across PCH from where we are gathering. Up Superior, there is a commercial area at Superior Avenue and Hospital Road. We expect to start at 8:30 am and finish sometime later depending on the number of riders and our social closeness. Bring a helmet. Pack a lunch or stop along the ride to pick-up lunch. There are several eateries along P.C.H. after crossing Santa Ana River on the return trip. In the strip mall near Channel Park, there is Jack in the Box, Chronic Tacos, and Fiji Yama.
