Day Trip to Victoria BC & Afternoon Tea @ the Empress Hotel

Details

This was so much fun a few years ago, that we're doing it again - the ultimate Girls' Day! We will arrange rides and meetup spots so we can catch the 9:00am ferry to Victoria. We will pre-purchase our vehicle ticket(s) to assure boarding on that sailing. This means we will each pay a couple of extra dollars for the reservation fees and share the vehicle fee (I am not willing to be bumped to a later sailing due to summer weekend traffic).

Feel free to post carpool offers & requests on this page and we will get everyone sorted, but we will not make specific plans until closer to the event date, when everyone knows for sure if they are coming. I will send out a group email when it is time to coordinate specific rides and pickup locations, so until then please continue posting general requests and offers but hold off on posting actual pickups, so we can make sure to accommodate everyone when the time comes. Please note that we follow the general Meetup guidelines when it comes to sharing carpooling costs, including ferry fees, parking, and cash from each passenger for the driver for gas, effort, and wear & tear.

Please advise me directly of all dietary restrictions so I can communicate them to the restaurant with the reservation.

In any case, we will definitely all meet up together at the ferry terminal prior to boarding, to fit into as few vehicles as possible for the ride over and back. We will probably take the 9:00am ferry over, and return on the 7:00pm ferry (arriving in Tsawwassen about 8:30pm) Based on the specific interests of those who replied to my questions on other activities in addition to Afternoon Tea, we will visit the Butchart Gardens and possibly the Butterfly Gardens (located close to each other), and/or wander around the fun and charming Inner Harbour area near the Empress Hotel.

STEEPED IN TRADITION SINCE 1908

A time honoured tradition for over a century, the world renowned tea lobby of The Fairmont Empress has served England’s most beloved ritual and Victoria's grandest tradition of Afternoon Tea to famed royalty, celebrities and dignitaries alike. Surrounded by rich chintz fabrics, antiqued tapestries and rugs, elegant wing back chairs, vintage furnishings and hand-carved tables, the picturesque backdrop of the Inner Harbour provides the quintessential Victoria experience to all who grace Afternoon Tea.

Award-winning Executive Pastry Chef D'Oyen Christie and Team serve hand-made signature Empress scones, delectable pastries and tea sweets prepared in house daily, reflecting locally sourced ingredients to ensure an authentically memorable experience. From the original blend of The Empress Tea created specifically for The Fairmont Empress, served in dainty William Edwards, (formerly Booth and Royal Doulton), china and sterling silver service to the enchanting ambiance of the live piano, Afternoon Tea is an absolute 'must do' for all who visit Victoria.

TEA SELECTIONS

Empress Blend

Exclusive to The Fairmont Empress, this delightful blend boasts a bright coppery colour and takes milk exceedingly well. The Assam component lends a rich malty character, while the Kenyan black tea provides subtle floral hints. Kenyan green tea infuses this blend and lively aroma, complemented by fruity, sprightly and airy piquant flavors of Dimbula from Sri Lanka. Small amount of Keemun draws the elements together with burgundy depth and light oaky notes.

Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling

“Margaret’s” is harvested during the ‘second flush’ (late May to late June), when the fragrance and taste are most complex. This tea offers delicate ending astringent cup, with the distinctive character of Muscat grapes and hints of current.

Fairmont Earl Grey

A blend of distinctive flavour and aroma derived from the oil of orange bergamot.

Borengajuli Assam

A delicious malty tea from the Borengajuli estate of Assam, India. Has a velvety feel on the palate and a natural sweetness.

Jasmine Butterfly Green Tea

The most famous scented tea in China and most commonly known to be a therapeutic tea.

Cascade Peppermint Tea

A naturally caffeine free tea made from blending peppermint and spearmint leaves.

Kea Lani Orange Pineapple

A bold and bright orange pineapple tea made from all natural herbs and dry fruit, this blend offers a refreshing, slightly tart profile to those that say “no” to caffeine.

Willow Stream Spa Blend

A superb blend inspired by our in-house Spa is produced in Zimbabwe. Decaffeinated, excellent depth and satisfying body with delicious malty notes and reminisce of caramel.

Please note additional optional "event fee"/donation of a loonie per person, to help cover the meetup web site costs (a 1-month term as organizer costs me $19, and while I am willing to foot the bill, I would like to offset some of the cost).
