What will our future look like, and how will it affect me? These might be questions you, as a manager, designer or organisation, have been pondering about. Futures research, also known as Strategic foresight or (Scientific) Future orientation, is a planning method that uses alternative stories about the future, many with improbable and dramatic twists, to develop strategy.
Back in the 70’s Pierre Wack, the father of scenario planning, predicted the energy crisis and with his “energy crisis” scenarios helped Shell’s managers realize the danger and prepare for it. The result was that Shell prospered more than its rivals and became a leader in its industry.
Guest speakers Kadri Sen, Nikki Van Oostende and Julien Hermans, alumni of the Idea and Innovation Management program at EhB, will share their fascination on the subject. Lieven Hérie from co-creation hub Schakel will present a case study. As always during our Digging Deeper sessions, the focus is on hands-on learning.
