The organizers of The Nashoba Valley Winery - Bluegrass and Brews Festival have gall, changing this to a "pay-for" event with less than a week to go before the event...Thanks, anyway, Jonathan, for the update. I realize that you are just the messenger. (Btw, Jonathan, I'm impressed with how you've presented so much helpful info. about this event so clearly and succinctly on this "page." Hope you all have a great time at the festival.)

Hi Paul K., I understand your point of view. I take a different view of this there decision to charge for the event. I know people who have worked for them and they are a small family run business struggling against a still poor economy and a particularly bad apple crop. This event - while extremely popular, also causes them to pay for extra police detail and secure parking outside of their land. Although the timing of the announcement from free to pay event was poor, I plan to spend my $5 for admission to support a local business based in Massachusetts. I doubt the admission fee will lessen the popularity of the event. In addition, they know people like me, bring their own food, which can bypass their concession stand. So In addition to paying the admission fee, I will buy wine and beer there and probably get some bbq while I am at it. In the meantime I get to spend time with friends I know well and new social fun friends to meet! Ciao for now.

Hi, again, Jonathan. You make a lot of excellent points, all very well-taken. You hit the nail right on the head, for me. Going from paying nothing to paying $5, especially for the kind of event that this is/promises to be, is not a big deal. It is/was the timing of the announcement of the change that rankled/rankles me. Thanks for filling all of us in--and straightening me out.

I don't know what other organizers do at events like this one, but I wanted to share what I started doing. I know it's sometimes hard for members to find the group at festivals. I bring along a myler balloon and tie it to my chair/table for a while. I let the group know in advance the kind of balloon I'm getting (my signature has become a smiley face). When I no longer need it, I find a child who's then thrilled to get it. I know it's not necessary, but I organized this bluegrass festival last year for Social Fun and found it helpful. Anyway, just a thought. This year I'm a "definite maybe" and will have to confirm later in the week. I'll definitely bring a dish to share.

Pre-registration is only open to the first 1500 people. And just because you pre-register doesn't mean you're guaranteed a parking spot so arrive early. There is additional parking at the church and school down the street but it's still an uphill walk from both.

Although the event starts at Noon and ends at 5, the winery has a field where it is basically first come and first serve. I plan to arrive early (11:00 - 11:30) to stake out a space. I am bringing a folding table, camp chairs, and plastic tablecloths to have a place where people can bring their food to share. So far, there are 30 people signed up here and 30 on the Wedeln Meetup site, so it should be a fun time. If you can help me out by bringing a folding table, that would be great. Please bring your own camp chair, or blanket, and food and drink to share.

Although the event starts at Noon. I will be arriving between 11:00 - 11:30 AM to stake out a spot since it is first come, first serve. The last 5 years have demonstrated that the place gets packed with people very quickly. Look for the Wedeln Ski & Outdoors Logo. Bring a long folding table, camp chairs, food to share, and friendly dogs... Last Year - Biagio brought a whiteboard for all kinds of games. Be creative...
