Sprout Up April

Sprout Up is a monthly event for forward-thinking entrepreneurs to gather and mind-meld. A great chance for startups to get friendly, discuss current trends, and network in a casual, open, and focused setting. Sprout Up events have been held in cities around the world including Toronto, Montreal, NYC and London, and regularly have over 300 attendees.

We’re excited to announce the details of our next Sprout Up Toronto, taking place Wednesday, April 18th The Courthouse. The guest speaker will be Matt Meeker, co-founder at Meetup, founder at Wee Web, and Entrepreneur in Residence at Dogpatch Labs. Matt’s latest venture is BarkBox, a subscription service for dog owners, which raised $100,000 in capital from Gary Vaynerchuk and others. Matt is also a Sprouter expert, and you can read his previous QA session here.

Tickets are $12 for this event - you must buy a ticket to attend and space is limited, so grab one while they're available! We will sell out, and we can't always accommodate everyone on the waiting list. We're also trying to relevantly recommend people to meet at Sprout Up, so when you register you'll be asked to answer a couple questions so we can make a relevant connection.

More about guest speaker Matt Meeker:

Matt was a co-founder at Meetup.com, and is the Entrepreneur in Residence at Polaris Ventures. He launched Meetup.com in 2002, and the service currently boasts more than 8 million members in 100 countries, and is host to thousands of meetups globally - including one that should seem quite familiar!

Meeker left Meetup in 2008, but still serves as an advisor. He is currently a co-founder at New York startup BarkBox, a subscription-commerce company serving dog owners, which raised $100,000 in capital from several angel investors, including Gary Vaynerchuk. Would be interesting in a larger venue, but oversold and too crowded.

Found it incredibly valuable to meet so many entrepreneurs. It was also insightful to hear speakers talk about their project and challenges.

I really enjoyed the guest speaker, Matt Meeker. It was really interesting to learn about a startup back when startups weren't around (not to mention facebook or twitter).

This was my first Meetup, as well as my first time attending a SproutUp event. I had a great time. I found found the speakers to be engaging, especially Mr. Meeker.

I am currently an articling student at a firm downtown in Toronto, and suffice to say that the general environment of mine & im told most firms is one of complete misery. So for an inherently outgoing and creative person, I found that being able to meet and interact with people who were passionate and excited about the work they were doing to be very inspiring.

I came to this meeting with a buddy in the industry, but I personally have no previous background in start-ups or computer programming. I spoke with developers and entrepreneurs and have already recevied e-mails wanting to further discuss some ideas I had regarding their products.

    Well done.

This was my first SproutUp event and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Thank you to the speakers and those involved with the planning. One suggestion is to turn down the music, it was very challenging to have a conversation while networking.

Join us for dinner before SproutUp - 5pm Wednesday at Mercatto (15 Toronto St). Network with a smaller group over great food in a more intimate setting. Message me to RSVP or just show up...
