Perhaps we could talk about some specific examples of this and how the public has been duped.  Next week?

Subject: [Socrates-Cafe-Louisville] Socrates Cafe Cancelled Tonight

Hi folks.

I hate to do this but the snow is going to keep enough of us home (me included) that it just makes sense to call off tonight's meeting.

Tonight's topic was "what is terrorism?" We'll continue with this topic next week. The idea was to consider some definitions (like those Jolly Roger provided) and to ask whether there are times when acts of terrorism is justified, by the United States or by our enemies.

The word itself is very emotionally charged and is used for political gains- Jim's postings show that. In fact, it's a lot like the word "torture". Despite the fact that "terrorism" and "torture" cause an emotional spike, despite the fact that these concepts have resulted in significant impacts to our lives, most people on the street would not be able to offer up a good definition for them. It's a little disturbing to think about how groups with political agendas (e.g., political parties, the press, and activist groups) use the public's poor understanding of these terms to further their respective causes.
