The details you've all been waiting for:
Well here it is, our 3rd meeting and finally in SF as I've been promising for months.
Rather than the last Thursday in April, however, we had to bump to the first in May due to the venue's schedule. The venue should be great, btw: http://www.parisoma.com/
But even better will be our topic and discussion. We'll discuss the exciting energy storage realm and the role that new software tools and utilities need to play there. In particular, new cost competitive grid scale storage systems are being developed right now. But they have very different needs than battery monitoring and protection systems for a Li-Ion pack. They have very different charge/discharge characteristics than LeadAcid batteries. They will require integration with many aspects of the grid (ex: consumption prediction models), especially when paired with RE generation sources.
It seems like storage might just be a lynchpin in making RE's inherent flaws (intermittency, generation out of phase with consumption, etc.) easier to deal with... and new software needs to be developed to help in this adoption.
I'll give a presentation about some of what I've learned recently in conversations with technology leaders at grid scale storage companies and we can all discuss.
