So you have always wanted to go the the Rose Bowl Flea, . . . .Just not alone. However you were also thinking, . . . why would I meetup and walk around with these new people? How will I get to know them? What if they don't like the same things I do?
None of that matters.
With this event as a vehicle you will get to know, as well as have lots of fun, . . . AND see all the great knick-knacks and whatchamowhozeis that abound.
This will be an actual Scavenger Hunt where you look for items. Teams will be 2 or more people.
We will do this at The Rose Bowl Flea on the Second Sunday of the month.
Admission is $9.
Parking is free.
It's simple. You will have to take pix (with your smartphone) of those items as specified
Your pix may involve you wearing or interacting with some of the items.
Can't quite tell you more as it will ruin the surprise. However here are some pix to inspire you to come.
No. This is not a virtual thing or run on an app.
How much does this cost? General Admission is $9.
Wait . . . the title says "free." Why is it not free to get in?
Answer: It is a free event as we are not charging for all that we are doing. It's just like a free bar night, or a movie event, or a concert. Free to go to the meetup. But you do have to pay for what drinks, or you do have to get tickets to be in the group area where the meetup is in the theater. Or you have to get the concert tix. But all the work of leading the meetup or planning the meetup or executing the meetup are free.
Total side note . . . we normally like to do this at PCC Flea. But they are still closed. https://pasadena.edu/community/flea-market/visiting-the-flea-market.php
For that matter it's free admission there but it is still $2 parking. That one ends up being a cheaper free event. BUT. . . . we have been locked up so long it's time to get out.
When was the last time you had this much fun at the Flea Market?
Our adventure will be mostly in the Orange and White area, however you can do the blue/red etc areas. That is new products, and infomercials like shamwow.
We will meet on the GIANT ROSE mosaic made of cinder paver stones. We will be ON that rose in the photos. You can not miss it. It's 40 feet across.
I (Marc . . . Screen-name Oddie) will be wearing a really tacky wide brim hat like the one posted in the event photos.
What can I win if I win?
World Domination and more!!
By the way . . . Brings a wide hat or umbrella. Bring sunscreen if you are prone to being toasted. Water is good too.
This event cross-posted. RSVP on the main location to be in on the convo.
Howdy!! We have been doing this Artsy Zoom Thingy every Wed since about Jan.
All in all this will be a fun social evening where we accidentally learn something together.
In general we will cover three types of things:
A Museum or Place
A movement, type or theme.
A person, personality or subject
We will alternate each week between them. Just to mix it up and keep it interesting.
This week . . . we are going delving into Cubism & Picasso too
What does that mean? What will we be covering? Come and find out.
Schedule (note: THIS WEEK . . . ALL times are PST)
7:00-8:00 pm: Open Arrival and Open Social. Chit and Chat
7:45-8:00 pm: A little bit of Intro.
8:00-9:00 pm: Location ONE
9:00-9:15 pm: Intermission and Refreshments. Chit and Chat
9:15-10:00 pm: Location TWO
10 onwards more fun open social.
What does that mean?
It means the main program will start sharp at 8PM. You will need to be ready to go and there BEFORE 8.
Ideally . . . you should be there at least by 7:45PM.
However . . . The ZOOM will be open starting at 7. Folks will be there and be social and chit and chat. (Spoiler alert: the social thing is kinda important).
OK . . . How do I get to go?
To Join The Event you MUST fill out this form/link so we have your correct email to email you the Zoom Link on the day of the event. It also asks some other things too. If you have attended an Art Soirée Zoóm of ours before . . . you do not need to do the Form a second time.
To Join The Event you MUST fill out this form/link (Yes. We did say this twice)
This is all sounds great. How much does it cost?
Oh yes . . . The cost is FREE!
That's a bargain even at twice the price!!!!
So why not splurge and come and share your time with us.
I know. You just read this whole thing and you are saying to yourself . . ."Self, . . . exactly what will they be covering or doing?"
And the answer is simple. at 7:45 we will do some intros of where/what, and at 8 we dive right in.
For an online event hopefully you will feel as if you have visited far off places and times. And maybe even see yourself in the those places and scenes.
We have been watching other artsy fartsy things being done. They tend to be essentially a power point. When it says "lecture" you better run!! There is no dynamic discussion or engagement. No interaction and no social.
AND . . . Most of all . . you really don't visit a place or meet the other people.
Just like anything else we do . . . ours will be different.
We will come out the other side richer for the experience.
Yes. This does mean there is no canned script.
Wait!! I just read this and I still do not know where to go. When will I know what places?
On the day of the event you will get an email 2 or 3 hours before the event. It will give all that info, plus some other zingers too.
For those not aware I do have classical art training, as well as years of working within the art industry with curators, conservators, collectors, artists, museums, studios and institutions. So we will make this all very worthwhile.
Our last one had about 70 folks show. Super fun. This event is cross posted to several like-minded groups.
Join us in this Art Adventure Social Soirée. Make some friends while learning and sharing, and sharing some learning.
IF you went to our last one you do NOT need to re-fill-out the google form.
BUT . . .. you may want to see what else we do
Our NEXT topics
May 12 Cubism (this event)
May 19 Eros
May 26 Museum/Place
June 2 Setting the Table
June 9 Social Realism
June 16 Surrealism
Event limited to 24 total.
Whitney is a stunning and beautiful place aside from the Summit. Sadly many do not appreciate it as they merely use it as a drop spot before going up towards summit.
For this we will head out in the AM and you will see the trail in the light. We will go only as far as Lone Pine Lake. This is normally a 5 mile round trip. On the way down (so about 4 miles) we will turn and have the option of going up to Lower Boy Scout Lake (about 2 miles up). Then back to camp.
This is intended to get you to feel and see the area and there is not the pressure of summiting, or starting at a crazy time of night. Many do not appreciate the start and the lower parts, as they are looking only at the top. Many pass by the stunning-ness of Lone Pine Lake looking only at the top.
We are going on this to either train for summit or to take it slow and appreciate the stunning area as it is.
We will have a private area all to ourselves. There is rushing snowmelt river/creek with tall shady pines. Running water.
Cute campground with other moderate and difficult day hikes close
We are also close to visit to The Alabama Hills, Mansanar and Fossil Falls.
Arrive Friday in the evening. Get there when you can. No set arrival time. The earliest we can be in the campsite is 4PM.
Sat: Hike Whitney Trail up to Lone Pine Lake. Then optional to Lower Boy Scout Lake.
Sunday has several options:
Alabama Hills, Ancient Bristlecone Forrest Mansanar, Fossil Falls
This is intended as Whitney for everybody trip. It is a Camping for first timers.
Fri to Mon $127 Per Person https://py.pl/yA5bu
Fri to Sun $117 Per Person https://py.pl/rTzTG
No matter who you are, . .you can come. We will go slow and easy. Nobody is left behind. This is for fun and community. Not for bragging rights.
Kids are OK. But super young is not ideal. Dogs are fine too.
You do not need a permit to make it up to Lone Pine Lake.
Whitney is a place that is on everybody's bucket list. We are going on this one not to Summit, . . but for fun.
Hence the title: Whitney for Fun!!
Add in Alabama Hills and add in Mansaar and Fossil Falls, . . . this is a getaway.
You are responsible for food and drinks (with people having so many food needs it only makes sense)
FULL Covid protocols in force at all times.
Whitney: The tallest location in the Continental US. Whitney is over 14,000 (we are not going up that for this meetup).
Alabama Hills once you see this place you will never camp at Joshua Tree again. AND every movie you can imagine filmed there. Tremors, Django, Ganga Din. Lone Ranger, Galaxy Quest, And on and on.

Mansanar: One of the internment camps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYTvbo238Sc
Fossil Falls is the former drainage of the Owens Lake. It slinked out thru a recent Lava Flow. . . . and the falls sculpted and carved the area. The river course changed and now you have a Waterfall that is frozen in time or Fossil Falls
Only 3 1/2 hrs from LA (or less if you drive faster)
Fri to Mon $127 Per Person https://py.pl/yA5bu
Fri to Sun $117 Per Person https://py.pl/rTzTG
What if I have a +1 or +whatever? Cost is Per Person. Just do the payment link a 2nd or 3rd time.
Event is rain or shine.
Refund if requested 4 weeks before event start. If cancel less than 4 weeks 100% Full Credit be applied to ANY future event we run.
We do have other fun events planned. See the full calendar.
Our events fill early due to quality sites with amenities. Curated or guided hikes& adventures.
Dogs ok at campsite and on trail.
Cats: that's your call.
This is a great beginner or first-timer trip.
