Day 2 – Phnom Penh

This morning you will visit the stunning Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, built by King Norodom in 1866 in Phnom Penh’s old town. Next, you will head to the National Museum to see a collection of Khmer art, and over 5000 artefacts from Angkor Wat. You will then continue to the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum and The Killing Fields to understand the atrocities which occurred in this beautiful country under Pol Pot’s regime. This can be an upsetting experience but it is important to know what happened here not so long ago. From here, you will be taken to the Psar Toul Tom Poung, also known as the Russian Market. You can then enjoy sunset views from Wat Phnom Temple. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Day 3 – Phnom Penh / Battambang

After breakfast, you will be leaving Phnom Penh and heading by public bus to Battambang, Cambodia’s second largest city. The journey is roughly 5 hours. Upon arrival in Battambang you will be taken to your hotel for check-in. Overnight in Battambang.

Day 4 - Battambang

After breakfast at hotel, you will visit Phnom Sampeou Mountain, steeped in legend and topped by Wat Sampeou and a group of caves used as ‘killing caves’ by the Khmer Rouge, which contain skeletal remains of their victims. In the afternoon, continue on to visit Ek Phnom Temple, an 11th century Angkorian-era ruin built as a Hindu temple under Suryavarman I. Wat Ek Phnom, a modern pagoda, sits next to the ruin. The river road drive to Ek Phnom from Battambang passes through small villages and rice paddies and is a beautiful countryside drive. You will also visit a market where Prahoc, the Cambodian fish paste, is made. Return to town for a short walk to the local market before ending your day with a visit to the bamboo train village. Overnight in Battambang.

Day 5 – Battambang / Siem Reap

After breakfast in Battambang, you will drive to Siem Reap by private transfer. After lunch, you will be taken to visit the floating village of Chong Khneas, 10km south of Siem Reap. From here, take a boat trip in a traditional wooden boat down the Tonle Sap Lake, one of the largest lakes in Asia. You will continue to a local primary school and then to Chantiers Ecoles – Les Artisans d’Angkor, where training is being provided to young Cambodians in an effort to revive the ancient Khmer traditions to stone carving and wood sculpting.

Day 6 – Siem Reap / Angkor

Today you will be exploring the wondrous ancient ruins of Angkor. Starting at the south gate, you will see Angkor Thom, famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone. Next, take a visit to the impressive Bayon Temple, with its multitude of smiling stone faces. You will also explore the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, Preah Khan, Neak Pean, and the Elephant Terrace. If there is time, you can also walk up to Phnom Bakheng Hill, for spectacular sunset views over these incredible sandstone monuments. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 7 – Siem Reap / Angkor

The beginning of your second day touring the Angkor area will be spent at Bantey Srei, a 10th century Hindu temple dedicated to the God, Shiva. During the trip you will visit the temple of Bantey Samre where, according to legend, a farmer became King of the Sweet Cucumbers. On the way back you will visit Ta Prohm, the jungle temple which has been engulfed by the surrounding trees and featured in many a Hollywood movie. In the afternoon you will head out to discover the beautiful Angkor Wat, one of the most extraordinary monuments in the world. Overnight in Siem Reap.
