This Meetup Group is for Twin Cities' residents who are 50+ and believe the term “solo” applies to them. Solos are people who cannot or choose not to depend upon the support structure traditionally provided by family (see the list below for examples of who is considered a “solo.”)
Many solos want to build a community of support, but making connections can be challenging. In its first year, Solos Taking Charge helped members build connections through shared problem solving around health decision making. Over time the group's focus has expanded to include social activities and periodic educational events. Members are encouraged to to suggest and help organize such activities.
This is a private group and members who attend events regularly will be asked to contribute $10 annually towards defraying Meetup costs.
Who is a solo?
Solos may be individuals who:
• have no children,
• have children or family who live at a distance,
• are estranged or separated from family,
• and/or have children/family who are not available or able to provide support.
If you are one of the millions of people who identify as a solo senior, come and check us out! We're a friendly and active bunch and we look forward to meeting you!
