What we're about

Beginning again on January 14, 2018, our practice together will be guided by the audio recording series Your Breathing Body Vol. II, by Reginald A. Ray. The series outlines ten somatic practices that we will explore together as a group, a new practice each week. Study of the recordings at home will deepen the understanding of the practice, but is not required for participation. Drop ins are welcome.

Generally speaking, we will explore secular body-based practices for relaxation and transformation as taught by Dr. Reggie Ray. The practices come from the Tibetan tradition, and are made accessible for modern people. No particular belief system is required, and all are welcome.

One definition of meditation is the practice of placing the awareness on an object of meditation. These guided meditations explore the body as the 'object of awareness', though the word object hardly captures the living wisdom of the body itself. Over time, increased awareness of the perception of the body and the body's own unfolding process can offer surprising insights.

Guided practice begins at 7pm, with time for discussion and questions from 8 - 8:30pm. Suggested donation is $5, or according to your inspiration. Meditation cushions are available for your use, or feel free to bring your own.

I appreciate the courage it takes to try something new. Feel free to contact me with questions. Please wear comfortable clothing. I will wait at the entrance (the glass doors at the back of the building) of 1441 East Ave from 6:45 pm until 7. At that time we will ride an elevator up two floors and walk up the remaining two floors. There is a small air conditioned space there, with meditation cushions for your use. The meditation will be a guided practice which may include a lying down and a sitting up posture. Please let me know if you prefer to use a chair. After we explore a guided practice together, we have about 30 minutes to share experiences, if so inspired. When speaking, please speak from the heart and listen from the heart. Also, please refrain from offering advice. We will honor the dignity of each person's experience without comment.
